A great season
Blyth Broomball handed out its annual year-end awards on Sunday night at the Blyth and
District Community Centre and a number of local athletes were honoured. Back row, from left:

Matliul skiers quality for OFSAA
Last week at the Nordic Ski
Western Ontario Secondary School
Athletic Association (WOSSAA)
championship, F.E. Madill skiers
performed well. In the Elementary
girls two -kilometre race, Alycia
Coultes won a gold medal in a time
of 8:53 minutes and in Elementary
boys 4.7 -kilometre race Ryan
McGowan won silver with a time of
22:16. In the junior girls 4.7 -
kilometre race, Breelle Shaw
finished in 15th place with a time of
21:35.
The Madill Junior boys won
bronze medals in both the individual
team race and the relay. The place
and time in the 5.7- kilometre
individual race were: Symen Van der
Vlies, 19th, 25:07; Patrick Leroux,
22nd, 26:05; Ethan Sangster, 23rd,
26:23 and Brandan Stein, 26th,
32:07.
The Madill Senior boy's team won
a silver medal in the individual race
led by Eric Van der Vlies placing
second in a time of 25:30, Brandan
Murray seventh with a time of
27:32, Evan Skinn 16th with a time
28:40 and Franklin Marshall 21st
with a time of 34:25. In the relay
race, they finished third for the
bronze.
The following skiers have
qualified to represent Madill in
Timmins at the All Ontario
Championships: Breelle Shaw,
Symen Van der Vlies, Eric Van der
Vlies, Brandan Murray, Evan Skinn
and Franklin Marshall.
Rolling Stones
look to IPM quilt

The fourth meeting of the
Wawanosh Rolling Stones took
place at the Wingham Golf and
Curling Club on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
Brooklyn Hendricks opened the
meeting with the 4-H pledge and led
the roll call which was, "Who
directs the play and tells the curlers
where their rocks should stop in the
house?"
Deanna Haanstra read the
minutes of the third meeting. Next,
members participated in judging
"me pages". Members then
discussed what the club's quilt
square would look like for the
International Plowing Match.
Members participated in a game of
charades. Following that, members
worked on a curling word search.
Members then went onto the ice and
practised throwing a stone and
sweeping. Members then played a
mini game.
Brooklyn Hendricks closed the
meeting with the 4-H motto and
members enjoyed snacks provided
by Deanna Haanstra. The next
meeting was scheduled for Monday,
March 6 at the Wingham Golf and
Curling Club at 7 p.m.
Practice makes perfect
After a productive meeting, the 4-H Wawanosh Rolling
Stones curling club took to the ice at the Wingham Golf and
Curling Club to practice their moves. Above, Megan Todd is

Medalling
Skiers from F.E. Madill Secondary School competed in the
Nordic Ski Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic
Association (WOSSAA) championship and managed some
impressive times, resulting in several medal finishes.
Above are the Senior Boys team who placed second, from
