EWAnniversary group seeking ambassador contestants
By Shawn Loughlin
The Citizen
Those organizing the East
Wawanosh Anniversary set for this
summer are on the hunt for
Ambassador contestants and golfers
in hopes of making the weekend a
success.
Joan Vincent of the organizing
committee says that the
anniversary's ambassador
competition is set for Saturday, May
27 at the Belgrave Community
Centre. Before that event can go
ahead, however, the competition will
need some contestants.
Vincent said the competition is
one of the first items that was
included in the anniversary's
agenda. Historically, a princess
competition has been part of
celebrations in the township, going
back to anniversaries 25 and 50
years ago. To update the
competition, however, it has been
changed to accommodate
contestants of all genders.
Contestants, Vincent says, need to
be between the ages of 17 and 23
and have to either live in East
Wawanosh or have to have lived in
the community at some point in their
lives.
Vincent said having an
ambassador, someone who can be
the face of the anniversary and do
their best to promote it, is an
important part of the process.
The deadline to apply is Monday,
April 3. Those wishing to apply can
contact Kim Walker at 519-357-
3237 or by e-mail at
kimwalker@hurontel.on.ca.
The ambassador competition will
be held on May 27 at the Belgrave
Community Centre. The contestants
will be interviewed from 2-4 p.m.
and the crowning will be during a
dessert and coffee social from 7-8:30
p.m. later that night.
Vincent also says that work is
continuing on attracting teams for
the anniversary's golf tournament,
which will be held at the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club.
Organizer Steve Nixon is on the
hunt for teams, which will consist of
four golfers to play in the scramble
format. A four -person team can enter
the tournament, play 18
holes of golf, use a power cart
and have lunch for $360, Vincent
said.
Those interested in participating in
the tournament can contact Nixon at
519-357-2222.
Vincent also says that a
fundraising raffle for the anniversary
is ongoing where winners stand to
gain some prime Huron County
meat if their ticket is drawn.
