Taking a ride
Old-fashioned horse-drawn sleigh rides were a big part of North Huron's annual Family Day
festivities in Belgrave. Many of the events took place at the Belgrave Community Centre, but
it was across the street that residents got a taste of winter air from a sleigh and got a great
view of the countryside while they were at it. (Denny Scott photo)

Canadian military presence and a
reception with veterans and youth to
close out the day. In addition, the
committee is planning to have a
concert involving the Royal
Regiment of Canada with members
of the 48th Highlanders of Canada
performing their Liberation of the
Netherlands concert.
Another initiative involves the
Huron Perth Catholic District
School Board and a college in the
Netherlands. The goal is to partner
classrooms here in Huron County
with classrooms in the Netherlands.
As time passes, the hope is that
students will develop friendships
and the ultimate goal would be to
eventually have student exchange
programs.
The committee is also in a
partnership with the City of
Burlington, the City of Burlington
Mundialization Committee and with
Holland Christian Homes in
Brampton and together they have
invited Her Royal Highness Princess
Margriet to visit Canada during
Canada's 150th anniversary year.
The partnership is confident that this
visit to Canada will in fact take
place.
In the near future, the committee
will be making an announcement as
to the exact date in May these
celebrations and ceremonies will be
taking place at Liberation Memorial
Park.
The committee is respectfully
asking for the assistance of the
citizens of Huron County in locating
and inviting the relatives of the 20

looking for photos, stories and
families of these men.
Your assistance is very much
appreciated and should you be able
to assist, they ask that you contact

Huron County men
fined by OMNRF
Four Huron County men have
been fined by the Ontario Ministry
of Natural Resources and Forestry
(MNRF) for hunting offences in
recent months.
William Bogie of Goderich pled
guilty and was fined $1,000 for
unlawfully possessing and using
another person's game seal.
Ryan McPhee of Auburn pled
guilty and was fined $500 for
unlawfully enabling another person
to use his deer licence.
Ryan Samworth of Nile pled
guilty and was fined $500 for
hunting white-tailed deer without a
licence.
Douglas Stoll of Clinton pled
guilty and was fined $250 for
possessing another person's deer
licence.
Court heard that on Dec. 19, 2016,
conservation officers from the
Guelph and Midhurst Enforcement
Units conducted an investigation as
a result of information gathered
during an earlier hunt camp
inspection north of Clinton. The
investigation revealed that McPhee,
who had a deer licence, had left his
unused deer seal at Stoll's camp as
he was no longer participating in the
hunt.
Later in the week, Bogie shot and
killed a deer. He returned to the hunt
camp and obtained McPhee's deer
seal and used it to seal the deer.
During the course of the
investigation, officers further
determined that Samworth hunted
on two days without a valid deer
licence.
Justice of the Peace Susan Stewart
heard the case in the Ontario Court
of Justice, Goderich, on Tuesday,
Feb. 7, 2017.
Hunters are reminded that they are
required to be in possession of their
own licences and game seals. It is
illegal to use or possess any licence
or game seal that was issued to
another person.
