Aquatic centre receives grant

A $150,000 grant has pushed
forward renovations on the aquatic
centre at the North Huron Wescast
Community Complex estimated to
cost a total of $426,697.
North Huron Township Council
received an Ontario 150 Grant for
$150,000 which will reduce what
North Huron pays for the proposed
renovations to approximately
$276,000, $182,000 of which has
already been put in reserves for the
municipality.
The project was initially slated for
2018-2019, but, with the grant, it
needs to be started and completed
this year.
The renovation includes removal
and replacement of the pool liner,
which has caused problems for the
municipality for years, at a cost of
$295,000 painting and replacing
HVAC rings at $44,000 and
implementing UV filtration and
mineral removal systems for
$30,554 and $30,000, respectively.
Consultation on the project is
expected to cost $27,143.
Director of Recreation and
Facilities Pat Newson announced the
grant at council's Feb. 6 meeting,
saying it should be recognized as a
great achievement.
"We should be proud of the
community," she said, adding funds
are limited in the program.
Councillor Trevor Seip asked if
this will be a final solution for the
ongoing pool liner problems, and

The Clinton Minor Baseball Camp

Bruce Member of Parliament Ben
Lobb. In 2011, Lobb noticed that
the sport was making a comeback in
Huron -Bruce and wanted to help
foster that growth. Every year he has
been able to secure sponsors to make
the camp affordable so all kids have
the chance to participate. Lobb is not
a stranger to the game of baseball.
He grew up playing baseball in
Clinton and attended Lee University
in Cleveland, Tennessee on a
baseball scholarship.
"Last year we broke our
attendance records with over 250
kids and we look forward to a big
year in 2017. We are excited to have
Jesse Barfield headline the camp and
welcome Mark Brew back for a third
straight year." said MP Lobb. "I
can't thank the municipalities, the
local business community and both
Clinton and Kincardine Minor
Baseball enough for all their
support."
This year's camp will run July 10-
11 at the Clinton Community Ball
Park, and July 12-13 at Kincardine
Connaught Park, Kincardine. It is
open to boys and girls, ages 8-18.
