Oh my: the potential and the
possibilities in 2017.
The holiday time is nearly over.
We're on the eighth day of
Christmas as I write this and it will
be day 11 or 12 as you read, so the
festivities are slowing down. Darn.
The larger the family, the more
time it takes to celebrate. For us the
second day of Christmas was the big
one, as 19 of our dear ones came to
call. Besides the usual food and
laughter we had check-in from Phil
and Lauren who were getting ready
to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef in
Australia. Andrew had us
celebrating again on the seventh day
At the Branch
of Christmas/New Year's Day as he
landed home to check on the family.
Christmas continues to be about
family near and far. It sure sounds
like the first Christmas when the
gathering of family and friends
changed the world with a birth. So
family love remains the basis for the
hope, peace, joy and love that
abounds.
The year-end always brings time
to ponder. A time to name our many
blessings, and a time to think about
things we will do better this year.
Year -ends always involve taking
stock and with that comes the
decision to change things or leave
things alone. Whether we are talking
business methods or clearing that
bunch of books and paper that need
reviewed, it takes a decision to make
it happen.
The docile mood of this time is
not a good time to make a major
move, it's the time to thoughtfully
decide what should and could get
done. Year-end and the new
beginning offers so many choices
and chances, sometimes it's better
Bennett to be missed
By Jo -Ann McDonald
Happy New Year to all! The year
2016 ended on a sad note for the
members of Brussels Legion Branch
218. Comrade Ross Bennett passed
away on Dec. 24 in his 95th year.
Our condolences to his family Nanci
and Peter and their families. Ross
had been a member of Branch 218
for 72 years and was an integral part
of the backbone of the Branch for
many years. He actively served on
the executive, as President and on
many standing committees.
A quiet, quick wit, he will be
remembered for his one-liners, his
humour and his dedication to the
Royal Canadian Legion.
A Legion service was held on
Thursday evening with Padre Sandra
Cable and President Jo -Ann
McDonald leading the 20 Comrades
gathered.
The funeral luncheon was held at
the Branch on Friday with Comrades
Judy Lee, Jean Davidson, Deb Ross,
Jo -Ann McDonald and Sandra
Josling assisting.
The Branch also held the funeral
luncheon for the late Isabel
Workman, a former member of
Branch 218. Our sympathies to
family Bonnie, Brian, Donna and
Jacquie. Comrades assisting were
Judy Lee, John Lowe, Mabel
Glanville and Jo -Ann McDonald.
The Thursday night dart crew had
a festive dart night before Christmas.
There were 12 darters out to enjoy
some regular darts and fun dart
games. They enjoyed snacks, games
and everyone received a gift.
Winners were: first, Daisy Wong
Schmidt and Catrina Josling;
second, Marlene Rutledge and
Sandra Josling; high, Lawrence
Machan, 125 and Sandra, 140.
We send get -well wishes to Lloyd
Glanville as he is a patient in
hospital at this time.
Zone euchre is on Jan. 21. For
those wishing to participate - drop in
to the Brussels Branch of the Legion
and sign up soon to guarantee a spot.

just to mull and ponder.
Lots of things happened at family
Christmas and in the past two weeks
that will make the memory bank of
2016. In each house these times and
stories will give us a smile on a
snowy January day. So relive the
event in your mind and share it with
others - probably bringing them a
smile too.
So as the mellow mood
diminishes, plans for the new year
are sneaking in, just remember the
nice time just past and make peace,
joy, hope and love part of your every
day.
Take care of yourself - exercise,
eat right, sleep and wash your hands
well and often.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
