First things first
The Blyth Lions Club hosted two breakfasts at Memorial Hall to feed visitors and residents
alike over the weekend. John Steffler, right, is seen here chatting with diners. The breakfast
raised funds for his Tanner Steffler Foundation, which has the goal of advancing mental health
care for youth in Huron County. (Hannah Dickie photo)
Blyth CIP modified

The plan for the creation of a
community improvement plan for
the village of Blyth will be modified
due to feedback from the Blyth
Business Improvement Area (BIA).
Huron County Planner Laura
Simpson attended the BIA's Aug. 1
meeting to get feedback from the
community, the most prevalent of
which was to expand the scope of
the project to move its northern
boundary to Westmoreland Street in
order to include two more local
businesses and its southern
boundary to Blyth Road.
As part of the meeting, business
owners were asked for feedback and
ideas for the project, one of which
was to help connect Blyth's growing
southern commercial zone,
including Blyth Cowbell Brewing
Company and Ultramar Gas Station
and Tim Horton's restaurant, to the
village's downtown core.
David Sparling, citing feedback at
Cowbell, said it was "shocking"
how many people come to the
village and have no idea what exists
north of the intersection of Blyth and
London Roads.
"We need to [direct] people up
Queen Street and increase awareness
of the village past the hill," he said,
which further enforced the need for
the CIP scope to be as far south as
possible.
The plan will allow Blyth to
access a portion of a $42,000 fund
that North Huron has available for
two zones: the commercial cores of
Blyth and Wingham.
After fielding several questions
about the program, and offering to
send answers back to the group,
Simpson explained a draft CIP,
incorporating as many of the
requests from the BIA as
possible, would likely be presented
to the North Huron Economic
Development Committee and North
Huron Council in September.
