SIA considers CIBC
WiFi partnership
By Denny Scott
The Citizen
As part of its efforts to lessen the
impact of closing its branch in
Blyth, the Canadian Imperial Bank
of Commerce (CIBC) has offered a
funding opportunity for community
WiFi, or wireless internet, in Blyth.
The offer, however, only covers
certain costs associated with the
implementation of the project.
During the Blyth Business
Improvement (BIA) Area's Aug. 1
meeting, Chair Karen Stewart
explained that the offer had been
made to the BIA to set up a fund to
cover the assessment and creation of
a WiFi access point for visitors in
Blyth's downtown core.
She explained the offer had some
strings attached, such as having to be
done through Bell, and that
someone, likely the BIA, would be
responsible for ongoing costs.
"The fund might cover the
assessment and set-up, depending on
how much the set-up would cost,"
she said.
Stewart said she would contact
CIBC and bring more information to
the BIA's September meeting.
Festival to be bigger and better this year
Organizers of this September's
Festival of Wizardry have promised
it to be bigger and better this year
and a recently released schedule and
list of activities certainly seems to be
delivering on that promise.
"People had a lot to say after last
year's festival and we want them to
know we really listened to them,"
says festival planner Nathan Swartz.
"People loved the wizard classes, the
quidditch tournament and all the
amazing vendors so we've put a lot
of energy into making those
offerings even better for the second
year."
The classes have grown from three
15 -minute interactive stage
performances to an all out school for
magic. The Borealis School for
Aspiring Wizards now has five
separate classes, which will be
taught by costumed professors, each
with their own unique and spell-
binding character. On top of these
classes, students will be able to relax
in house tents, view interactive
displays and even make crafts
related to their wizarding classes.
According to Swartz, residents
and businesses in the Village of
Blyth were also impressed with last
year's event thanks to the huge
influx of magic -loving tourists
causing many BIA businesses to
report record sales days.
Some aspects of the event may be
missed because they were cut from
this year's festival lineup, including
the themed ice bar, the Friday night
VIP dinner, and the ability to use
Gypsy Lane as an entrance into the
festival.
Aspects that have been improved
include the creation of the School
for Magic, doubling the number of
vendors, adding commentators with
amplified sound to the quidditch
tournament, an enhanced scavenger
hunt experience (including a world
record attempt on the Saturday),
adding more wizarding games
including archery tag, paddle boats
and a bouncy maze.
Some of the musicians from last
year's festival will be returning and
the Mudmen, a very popular Ontario
band, will be joining the lineup on
Saturday.
New additions to the Festival of
Wizardry include four house tents
each with their own unique activity,
White's Wands Wonder Emporium,
is filled with wand -activated art,
magical wonders, and a mundane
artifact museum.
The Improv Dandies, an
improvisational comedy troupe best
known for their "Holodeck Follies,"
will be performing a comedy show
on Saturday and running some
parody panels on the Sunday.
On Saturday and Sunday only the
`Restricted Section' will offer
alcoholic Better Beer and other
magical elixirs for witches and
wizards 19 years of age or older.
Spell Tutor, an award winning fan
fiction series will be showing
throughout all three days with
chances to interact with Herman

Richmond relatives gathered at the

reminiscing and catching up on the
family tree book took place.
A pot luck supper was enjoyed by
all. Many of us look forward to
seeing one another at this annual

Do we have any evidence that we really intend to go there?
(John Owen)
We all profess that we are bound for Heaven, immortality and glory. But do we
have any evidence that we really intend to go there --if all our thoughts are
consumed about the trifles of this world, which we must leave behind us --and have
only occasional thoughts of things above?
"If then you were raised with Christ --seek those things which are above, where
Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above --not on
things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When
Christ who is our life appears --then you also will appear with Him in glory!"
