As predicted, we wanted rain,
needed rain and now we have rain.
There have been a couple of good
rains, not heavy downpours to
flatten crops or to just run away, but
steady, soaking rains giving the
ground that needed moisture. But
now we need a small break from the
rain for a few days, to get the wheat
crops off and the straw in. Hard to
keep us farmers happy!
Welcome back to Paul and Janice
Machan and family after a week-
long fishing trip. They were in the
Callander area with sons, Wyatt and
Wade, and spent hours on the lake. A
good four hours each morning and
afternoon catching pickerel and
perch and the ugly fish, the
sheephead. They enjoyed fish to eat
every day and had a great time and
weather.
Anyone travelling to the east coast
may want to take in the Canadian
Senior Games being held in Saint
John, New Brunswick Aug. 21-24. A
former local boy, Dave Huether, will
be there with the Brampton Sports
Unlimited Senior Falcons hockey
teams. They are the defending
champions in the 55 -and -over, 60 -
and -over and 65 -and -over divisions.
They are representing Ontario and
Dave is the general manager of all
three teams.
There will be 45 players, nine
coaches and 35 guests attending to
witness the events, as well as the
amazing tides and cruise ship
dockings. Saint John will host 1,500
athletes and their guests from across
Canada to the games.
We wish them good luck and a
great time. While there, Dave hopes
to connect with Weldon and Joanne
(Knight) Black for a visit!
Our under -the -weather crowd
includes Mary Davidson, who would
love visitors at the Seaforth
Hospital, Jim Knight is soon coming
home and Glenn Warwick who is at
home. We hope everyone is doing
well.
The Edge of Walton Challenge
Course held another camp last week
named the Little Bugs Camp. The
children participating were between
the ages of four and six and they had
a blast. There were five groups of
seven children with a senior
counsellor and a junior councillor
helping with activities. The kids
enjoyed canoeing and kayaking,
fishing and catching frogs and
turtles to learn about nature.
Biking, climbing and games with
camp songs and storytelling rounded
out the full day of activities.
The three-day event was from 8:30
a.m. to 4 p.m. and everyone brought
their picnic lunch. A
fun time for all, children and adult
alike.
Returning from a nine -day tour in
the west are Val Shortreed and her
cousins Mac and Janet Webster.
They flew to Calgary from Toronto
with the Hanover Holiday tour
group. There were around 20 from
around the area on the tour.
The first night in was free time and
the Walton connection made
arrangements to meet with former
Waltoners Jean Bewley and daughter
Brenda Raven and Karin McDonald.
The six of them enjoyed dinner
together at a convenient restaurant.
We can report that Jean is doing
well, still good looking with a sharp
mind and wit. They also enjoyed,
especially Janet, the visit with
Brenda and Karin.
The tour group was off the next
morning to tour the city of Calgary,
a trip out to the badlands and
Drumheller and a stop at a cowboy
ranch. It was off to the west in the
tour van to Banff for a tour and they
stayed at Kananaskis Country for the
night. It was back to Banff in the
morning to board the Rocky
Mountaineer Train and start the trip
through the mountains. Beautiful
scenery, waterfalls and a social time
making new friends. They stopped in
Kamloops for the night and then
back on the train in the morning to
complete the trip to Vancouver. A
tour of the city of Vancouver and
sites was enjoyed before the end of
their vacation.
They flew home from Vancouver
and report it was a lovely trip and
time away.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Jim Blake, Kathy
Elliott, Jayne Ross, Naomi Pryce,
Sharon M. Brown, Dorothy Kelly,
George Townsend, Liz Ross. Tyler
Eckert, Donna Blair, Cathy
Flaxbard, Tyler Leslie Ribey, Olene
Dennis, Sandra Huether, Paul Ryan,
Jordan Shortreed, Bridget Blake,
Jeanne Dionne, Jennifer Grobbink to
conclude July.

Suit up
As part of the youth camps at the Edge of Walton Challenge Course over the past two weeks,
participants got to ride motocross bikes, learn archery and yes, climb the tower marking the
