Future of museum collection remains undecided

services that are also offered.
Scott explained that, if the
museum is moved, storage will need
to be considered as the station won't
have the necessary space. She
pointed to the existing Wingham
Police building, known as the
Armouries, as a potential storage
place as the Wingham Police Service
is phased out in favour of the
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Scott finished her presentation by
walking council through the process
of closing the museum service and
returning the 12,000 artifacts in the
collection, saying it would take a
staff member at least a year to do so.
She did say, however, that if council
decided to pursue that option, all
expenses associated with the
museum would be erased from the
budget by 2020.
Councillor Trevor Seip agreed
with Vodden's statement regarding
council's previous refusal to provide
the support needed to run a museum.
"The museum has its needs," he
said. "The municipality has
shortchanged it for resources and
programming, and we've known
about it for some time."
Seip said that having someone in
the building isn't going to solve the
problem the museum has faced.
"Longer hours and more
accessibility [aren't] the concern,"
he said. "We're not able to meet the
needs of the museum."
He said that Huron County
Museum Curator Elizabeth French-
Gibson's explanation of what would
be required to make the museum a
success, provided at a council
meeting earlier this year, would be
difficult for North Huron to supply.
Seip went on to say that, if council
wasn't going to commit to providing
whatever was needed to make the
museum a success, be it staffing or
training, he couldn't support the
move so the issue could be revisited
in another five years down the road.
"We have to be clear here, if we're

looking at the move," he said. "We
have to look at programming and
staff needed to provide a budget
accordingly and we need to leave it

Council accepted the report and
directed Scott to investigate moving
to the train station and further
programming opportunities.
And who do I make this out to?
The Blyth Lions hosted a special fundraiser for the Blyth Brussels Minor Hockey Association
