On Tuesday fed steers and heifers sold steady and fancier cattle sold at a premium. Fancy steers and heifers sold $155 to $160 with a high of $160.50. Choice steers and heifers sold $152 to $155. Second cut sold $148 to $152. Cows sold steady. On Thursday beef, right weight and slightly heavy holstein veal sold steady while plain and heavy holstein veal sold on an easier trade. Lambs sold steady while goats and sheep sold higher. On Friday calves and yearlings sold actively at steady prices. John Wharry of Paisley, consigned 23 lambs that averaged 102 lbs. and sold for an average 4-H Beef Club visits Blyth Vet Services By Michaela Rodger The second meeting of the Lucknow 4-H Beef Club was held on Thursday, May 31 at 7 p.m. at the Lucknow Legion. To start the meeting off, the club did the 4-H pledge followed by the minutes from the previous meeting, secretary's report, treasurer's report and paperwork. Leader Holly Holyoake introduced Dr. Phil Garriock from Blyth Vet Services. Phil presented a slide show to the club demonstrating a "healthy calf'. This slideshow consisted of the type of vaccines, disease prevention, how to tell if your calf is sick and what to do if it is sick, as well as information on respiratory diseases, coccidiosis, acidosis, bloating, strawberry foot, foot rot, warts, ringworm, and lice and mange. Before the big event, the garden hosts checked out the competition on Friday night to meet and discuss ideas with their fellow gardeners.
