We have a gold medalist or two in
our area. Ernst Gubelmann and
Arnold Egli are both members of the
Swiss Yodel Friends Choir, who are
a group of farmers with 14 men and
three ladies. They are part of the
Swiss Yodel Club that practise on
Wednesday evenings in Milverton.
They attended the annual North
American Swiss Singing Alliance
competition in Toledo, Ohio on the
June 30 weekend. The group is
under the direction of Arnold Egli
and they came home with the gold
medal! The group has been around
for 20 years and all the songs are in
Swiss. There were 13 different
choirs in attendance from across
Canada and the U.S. They are
hosting a concert in Milverton in
September and have a guest choir
from Switzerland attending.
Congratulations to the choir and to
our two local gentlemen.
Congratulations to Scott Robinson
who was awarded an honour last
week. Scott received the Swine
Breeders Merit Award at the general
meeting for the Canadian Centre for
Swine Improvement (CCSI) in
Ottawa. The award is for making a
significant contribution to the
Canadian Swine Improvement
Inanimate animation
It can be tough imitating something that isn't alive, but students at the Brussels Mennonite
Fellowship's vacation Bible school earlier this week were tasked with trying to emulate sand.
It took a second, but almost all of them stumbled on the idea of laying together. As of press
time there was no word on whether any students tried to get uncomfortably lodged in their
leaders' footwear. (Denny Scott photo)
Langlois celebration a reunion
Celebrating a milestone on the
weekend were George and Pat
Langlois. A party was held to mark
the occasion of their 60th wedding
anniversary. They were married in
Copper Cliff, just northwest of
Sudbury, on July 12, 1958. Just
youngsters, Pat was a hairdresser
and George worked at the Loblaws
grocery store. Over the course of the
next few years, Pat's family moved
to Seaforth. Susan Langlois was
born and George made the decision
to become a hairdresser. He went
to school in London, moved
the family here and worked in
Stratford.
In 1964 they had moved to
Brussels and George of Brussels
began his hair dynasty with his first
shop in town. According to my
recollections, George had seven
different shop locations in Brussels
along with shops in Wingham,
Blyth, Seaforth and Mitchell over
his career of 46 years. George kept
busy socially with the Brussels
Optimists, men's town league slo-
pitch and hockey. Pat kept busy as a
mother with Susan and Chris as well
as many other activities. She worked
alongside George as a hairdresser,
taught ceramics, operated the first
bulk food store in Brussels, and was
a respite care giver for children. She
also sold Avon, worked as a
photographer for The Citizen and
waitressed at the Golden Lantern
Restaurant and Cinnamon Jim's. Her
most recent venture is working with
the Huron Perth Seniors Mental
Health Team for families dealing
with the effects of a stroke.
They have worked side by side in
many of their activities and just
being in their presence for five
minutes, you know they have a
strong bond of love and caring for
each other. Congratulations to
George and Pat on 60 years of love
and laughter.
It was a gathering of former
employees of Cinnamon Jim's at Pat
and George's anniversary party on
Sunday. There were Jim, Lois,
Sandra, Gail, Jennifer and Susan
Gerber attending to congratulate Pat
and have their picture taken.
Program through leadership,
achievement and participation in
performance testing. Scott has spent
31 years as Vista Villas Director of
Genetic Improvement.
Congratulations Scott!
We send fast -healing wishes to
Gail White who had surgery on her
foot since returning from holidays.
We hope she is out running around
very soon.
The Walton Hall Board hosted a
Blyth Festival dinner on Saturday
evening. Nearly 60 enjoyed the roast
beef dinner provided. Helping for the
event were Barb Durrell, Judy Lee,
Jo -Ann McDonald, Judy Emmrich
and the newest member Margaret
Mclnroy. They are a great bunch to
work with and it was a job well done.
Neil and Marie McGavin have
returned from a few days away to a
little cooler climate. They spent a
few days in North Bay with daughter
Heather and Bryan and their family
of Hayden, Jessica, Jared and Ella. It
is always nice to catch up with their
northern family as they do not get to
see them as often as the ones near
home.
Celebrating birthdays this past
