Leisure Free lease of station offered for NH museum By Denny Scott The Citizen The North Huron Museum may have found a new home in Wingham, however there are some unanswered questions council needs reviewed before moving the facility. The museum's building closed earlier this year as part of budget discussions and the presentation by North Huron staff member Melissa Scott didn't address the existing building. She said her presentation Most important meal As part of the annual PIucKIN'Fest celebration in Clinton over the weekend, the Central Huron Fire Department hosted a breakfast at the Clinton Raceway. (Shawn Loughlin photo) was about the programming and artifacts. A local property owner that Scott described as a philanthropic business owner had offered the railway station on Wingham's main street as a home for the museum at no lease cost to the municipality. The municipality would need to pay to staff the facility, utilities and taxes, however the 3,000 -square - foot facility would be free to use provided North Huron keeps it open to the public as a museum and tourist attraction. That clause would be built into its lease. While council was happy to hear about the opportunity, Councillor Trevor Seip, echoing the concerns of Councillor Brock Vodden who was absent from the meeting, said that if North Huron wasn't going to support the museum, moving it made no sense. He said in recent years, priorities have shifted and council has had no appetite to fund the museum. He said that considering moving it without an idea as to how much it would cost to have staff trained to operate the site as a full-time `Behind the Bars' tour open The popular Behind the Bars evening tours at the Huron Historic Gaol are returning again this summer with new characters to meet! "Our efforts aim to get tobacco imagery out of youth -rated movies." At the event, Huron County Health Unit staff and students will be addressing the issue of smoking in movies rated for children and the effects that these movies may have. There were also concerns that, at 3,000 square feet, the facility was less than a third the size of the existing museum, and that would result in some focusing of the collection. Scott also presented information about the investment needed to divest the municipality of the existing museum's artifacts if council decided to not pursue a new space or programming options. Council received Scott's report and directed her to prepare another report outlining the costs to move to the train station and hold programming there.
