After a successful test run with
some members of the historically -
influenced upcoming Blyth Festival
play Wing Night at the Boot, Blyth
native Reece Sparling is ready to
start his new business Blyth Bike
Tours.
The business will open within the
next week at 213 Dinsley Street, just
east of Queen Street, as a temporary
location.
Sparling said he is in the last phase
of getting his project ready to go,
having recently fine-tuned stops
with Brock Vodden and his late wife
BIA looks to help Barn Dance
The Blyth Business Improvement
Area (BIA) is hoping to help find a
new home for the Historical Barn
Dance Museum, which could be
losing its home with the closure of
the North Huron Museum.
BIA Chair Karen Stewart
explained that Barn Dance
Historical Society Chair Gord
Baxter had reached out to her
looking for a new location for the
collection. She said that Baxter
estimates the annual Barn Dance
Campout and Jamboree brings
$12,000 to Blyth every year. Due to
that spinoff, she said it would be a
good move to find a new home for
the collection.
The society's collection occupies
approximately 400 square feet of
space, Stewart said.
David Sparling said that in
addition to the Barn Dance
collection, the BIA should also find

room for artifacts related to the
161st Battalion, which are
also losing their home with the
closure.
The battalion was a group of
Huron County residents that served
in World War I. It was absorbed into
the 4th Reserve Battalion in 1918
after two years of service. It also
served as the inspiration for a play
called The Fighting 61st which was
workshopped through the Huron
Arts and Heritage Network and the
Blyth Festival.
Cat O'Donnell of the Wonky Frog
wondered if the exhibit couldn't be
displayed at the Blyth Centre for the
Arts during the Blyth Festival's
offseason when the space isn't being
used for art exhibits, however
storage of the artifacts would be an
issue.
Jennifer Triemstra-Johnston of
Pick a Posie suggested crafting
mobile display cases for the exhibit.
She has previously been involved
with shows that had to move and she
said that was the way to handle it.
Again, however, storage was
questioned, but Triemstra-Johnston
said storage might be simpler to
solve than resetting an exhibit every
year.
Sparling suggested repurposing
parts of the arena, while Les Cook of
Queens Bakery suggested splitting
up the collection and displaying in
different parts of village.
"It might be harder to set up, but it
would be neat to have it spread
around," he said. "Each
location could lead to the other
locations."
Stewart said there might be
funding for constructing cases,
adding that she would investigate it
further and bring the issue back to
the BIA.
Little single days
(J.R. Miller, "Daily Bible Readings in the Life of Christ" 1890)
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own!" Matthew 6:34
One reason which our Lord gives against anxiety for the future, is that we have
nothing to do with the future. God gives us life by days --little single days. Each day
has...
its own duties,
its own needs,
its own trials and temptations,
its own griefs and sorrows.
God always gives us strength enough for the day. But if we insist on dragging in
tomorrow's cares and piling them on top of today's cares --our strength will not be
enough for the load. God will not give additional strength --just to humour our
whims of worry and distrust.
So the lesson is, that we should keep each day distinct --and attend strictly to what
it brings to us. Charles Kingsley says: "Do today's duty, fight today's temptation --
and do not weaken and distract yourself by looking ahead to things which you
cannot see, and could not understand if you saw them." We really have nothing at
all to do with the future --except to prepare for it, by doing the duties of today with
fidelity.
No one was ever crushed by the burdens of one day. We can always get along with
our heaviest load --until the sun goes down. Well, that is all we ever have to do.
Tomorrow? Oh, you may have no tomorrow; you may be in Heaven. If you are here-
-God will be here too, and you will receive new strength sufficient for the new day.
"As your days --so shall your strength be!" Deuteronomy 33:25

Janis to incorporate into albums that
will help illustrate the historical
aspects of Blyth.
Until the Howard building, just
north of the Blyth Festival, is
complete, Sparling will be operating
on Dinsley Street, storing his 18
bikes there and meeting those
interested in tours there.
The tours will be offered by
appointment online through
blythbiketours.com.
Sparling explained the best way to
experience the tour is through the
bikes he has, not only because he
can vouch for their care and
maintenance, but also because they
are outfitted with fenders and
flashing lights for safety as well as
pouches for the photo books.
"It's the best user experience," he
said.
Private tours can be arranged in
which riders can use their own bikes,
he said, or for younger riders.
The regular tours will be held two
to three times a day for riders 12
years of age or older.
Two tours are available, a 90 -
minute variant that mostly stays
within the village and focuses on the
history of Blyth, and a three-hour
tour which includes double the
stops, more time off the beaten path
and visits more of the outskirts of the
village.
