Thirty-six teenagers from Hullett
Central Public School celebrated the
end of the first stage of their
education and got set to embark on
the next stage of education/life on
Wednesday, June 27. The graduation
dinner and ceremony for the class
of 2017/2018 was held at the
Blyth and District Community
Centre.
The meal was prepared and served
by the ladies of the Blyth Legion
with the assistance of students and
parents of Hullett's Grade 7 class.
NJS Design and Greyhaven Gardens
provided the beautiful decorations.
In her presentation, Valedictorian
Abby Bos stated she was honoured
to represent this class on a night
when all of the graduates would be
looking back on the past, pondering
the present and looking into the
future. Her speech spoke of the
highlights and events of the past 10
years and mentioned the impact of
teachers on their lives/thinking.

While the sandbox might have been the best place to play
and dig during school, now that it's out, students, like, from

Canada Day brings patriotism
Hopefully each of you did
something to mark Canada Day. It
was truly tempting to stay indoors out
of the heat. However, organized
activities to mark the day were varied
with something for everyone to enjoy.
We marked the celebration a day
early and caught a matinee at the
Huron Country Playhouse of
Cruisin' Classics. Great show! One
of the lines in the show caught my
attention having just given up
handling your mail. Did you know
that in 1957 a regular stamp cost a
mere three cents? Boy, things have
changed!
Driving about the area in the
last little while we saw that
folk are definitely continuing
to declare their patriotism. Lots
of red and white in evidence.
Not only has our municipality
hung lots of Canadian flags, but
have you noticed the colorful new
banners along the main business
area in Clinton?
They are eyecatchers for tourists
about what the area has to offer and
an attractive way to toot our own
horn, so to speak.
Event to grow: Vanden Heuvel
Continued from page 8
humidity, she said, seemed to have a
great time and all got along over the
course of the four days.
The tour began in Elmira and
ended its first day in West Montrose
before then travelling to Blyth and
using it as an anchor location for
Canada Day.
The cyclists left Blyth early
Sunday morning, making it to
Goderich in the morning to take in
the sights and sounds of the town on
Canada Day before making their
way back to Blyth for fireworks that
night.
The ride was then scheduled to
make its way back through Perth
County on Monday to finish the
event.
While not everyone was able to
finish the tour, one woman did, a 60 -
year -old from Edmonton, Vanden
Heuvel said, which shows just how
important the event can be to those
who choose to participate.
While there was plenty of cheer
and good spirits on the trail, things
were also positive off of it, she said.
The tourism aspect of the event,
Vanden Heuvel said, was also great.
Those taking part in the event were
able to absorb culture from
throughout Huron and Perth
Counties and interact with residents
when they stopped, whether
it was in Blyth or in Goderich.
As for next year, Vanden Heuvel
said the organization is planning on
expanding the event and welcoming
even more cyclists into the fold.
Getting that first event completed
and in the books so she can learn
from it, she said, is an important step
in the process.
In the meantime, the trail is still
looking for help in the form of
fundraising and partnerships with
adjacent landowners and local
service groups to keep portions of
the trail groomed throughout the
year.
