GEO, SIDDALL,
MANAGER.
Judge Ferguson, in the course of
the Ponton trial, made the statement
that the majority of the young men of
the present spend their time in frivol-
ity and pleasure -seeking, whereas,
when he was young, a great number
devoted their leisure to reading and
study, thereby laying the foundations
for future prominence and usefulness.
This is a serious indictment of the
young men of to -day.

thing that helps to. snake these 'big

liberally in the papers, -ani hy so

newspapers sae no part of the paper

LANES NEVUS
Re•optaliDg of Lanes Presbyterian
Church
Our re -opening services in the Pres-
byterian church here proved successful
beyond the expectation of the most
sanguine. The afternoon meeting was
very largely attended, and the very
able and practical discourse delivered
by the Rev. Mr. Olivant, of Lucknow,
amply repaid all who were in atten-
dance. The text was taken from
Pro, 3, 17: "Her ways are ways of
pleasantness." The evening service
found the church crowded to the doors.
Rev. A. Millar, of Lochalsh, preached
a powerful sermon from Romans 15,
2: "Let every one of us please his
neighbor fer his good to edification."

The building inside presents it very
neat and comfortable appearance and
is a credit to Max Wilson, who was
employed to do the work. The united
efforts of the members and adherents
of our congregation have been crowned
with success, and is-ste it source of
gratification to knovt that the congre-
gation as it whole, and especially our
esteemed pastor, have expressed thein•
selves so highly pleased with what
has been done. The unity prevailing
in this section Was plainly noticeable
by the attendance of so many different
denominations. The thanks of the
congregation is due to our Methodist
friends for the very hearty manner in
which they assisted in making our
meetings so successful. The collec-
tions at the two services amounted to
the snug sum of $35. This added to
the subsription list previously signed,
amounts to $110.
The Sacrament will be observed here
on Sabbath next.
