delighted with the attitude: of Britain

'in this war excitement:, He ,should
be; and so should the _ whole 'United

dent daily that had it. not been for
Britain's influence in Europe and
her friendship for the United States,
the Republic would have been long

an t e war fever which has been let

driven Uncle Sam into rash defiance

The condition of Mt.- D'Alton Mc-

Sundninight. There were three con-
sultations of *attending physicians -
Drs. Ilrasekt, Pepler and Graham.
The blow which Mr. McCarthy re
ceived on the -side through being
thrown against a telegraph pole has
reeulted, it ie thought, in broken parts
of the ribs penetrating the ;ungs, and
scute pneumonia has set in. It is this
wound talit the doctors fear more than
the one received on the head, and- the
chances of recovery are considered
very doubtful. The patient remains
in a semi conscious state, and there is
a physician in almost constant attend-
ance at his bedside.

sorry to learn that Mr. D'Alton Mc-
Carthy has died from the effects of his
injuries.

DEATH OF MISS
••••1414.4
McDONALD
A former resident of Wawanosh.
After a lingering illness endured
with Christian fortitude and with the
assurance that death to her physical
body but meant transition to life ever-
lasting. Miss Catherine McDonald, of
Laggan Farm, passed peacefully to
the great beyond early last Sunday
morning, aged 33 years. The deceas-
ed hes been in most delicate health
for a lcng .time, and the sorrowful
occurrence did not come altogether
unexpected. Nevertheless, this does
not relieve the pangs of sorrow of her
aged parents and bereaved brothers,
all of whom have a most extonded
range of sincere syinpathy, the family
being among the oldest and most re-
spected of the district.
Miss McDonald, though naturally
of a retired and quiet, unassuming
nature, had many warm friends in
Virden and around her home, many of
whom showed their sorrow by placing
wreaths upon the cotlin. The funeral
was probably the largest ever seen in
the district, 120 rigs being in the cor-
tege of friends assembled to pay their
besides a large number who easel:Xi
last tribute of respect to the de
at te home. The funeral service was
conducted by Rev. Mr. Currie, of Was
wanesa, an old and favorite pastor
of the deceesed,
Among the friends and relative
present from a distance were Mr, A.
McDonald, Regina; A. Potter, Bran-
don; W. Meerill, Mr. and Mrs. Morri-
son, Pipestone; H. McDonald, Winni-
peg; and a humberlrom Oak Lake and
