What do you think of
Dave Hall
Canton, Ohio
"I think the hippies are
saying something to our
society. There are things
that are wrong. But I don't
think escaping is the answer.
We have to change our
society constructively."
Patti MacLeod
Grand Bend
"Hippies can be very
intelligent people. They can
be very real. I think they
should be able to live their
life the way they want
without criticism from
others. As long as they
believe in their way of life
it's alright for them --maybe
not for anyone else."
hippies ?
Pete Fennema
Stittsville, Ontario
"I don't go for them too
much. They're a little dirty
and ragged looking. I'm in
the army and I like to be
governed by rules and
regulations."
Wayne Gascho
London
"I like them. You can't
knock a hippie because he
can't afford a haircut. I
believe in their escape from
society but I don't believe
in an escape through drugs."
Atlantic Aviation
Limited, located at
Montreal I n ternational
Airport, will soon
commence a demonstration
tour of Eastern Canada with
a new float equipped
Centennial. A similar
demonstration tour of
Western Canada is now
being undertaken by the
Company during the current
month.
Old boats
wanted
If you possess an old
boat and are thinkirg of
trading it in fc,r a newer
model don't. At least not
just yet, especially if your
boat is over 30 years old.
The Bridgeview Marina at
Pt. Edward is holding an
antique boat show Saturday
August 24 from noon to
dusk and they're looking
for some old boats in
running condition to enter
the show.
Wray Rutledge,
promotion director for the
marina was in town Sunday
looking for anyone who
owns a pre -Second World
War boat who might like to
enter the show.
So far he has found five
boats for the show including
at 1928 speed bolt.
Mr. Rutledge explained
that it is much more
difficult to locate antique
marine things than antique
cars because "most old
boats are at the bottcm of
some lake."
At the Bridgeview Marina
show there will be plenty of
prizes and in addition to the
marine show there will also
be an antique car show
featuring over 50 cars.
The Bridgeview Marina,
which claims to be Canada's
largest marina, is located at
Pt. Edward, at the foot of
the Bludwater Bridge.
Break and entry
A St. Thomas man,
Alexander Sandy George
has been charged with theft
over $50 in connection with
a break -and -entry at Dale's
Esso last Thursday night.
Proprietor Dale Hayter
contacted police Friday
morning when he discovered
$85 missing from the till.
Mr. George was arrested
at hi; residence in St.
Thomas. Early Sunday
morning the proprietors of
the Gill Road Esso station
reported a break and entry
at their establishment.
It is believed that
entrance was gained through
a window about 2 a.m. that
morning. $38 was stolen.
These are not hippies
With their longish hair
and worn clothing they may
look like hippies but neither
Jerry Szymanski of
Kirkland Lake or Gerald
Rancourt of Sault Ste.
Marie accept that
description.
In fact neither of them
like the word Hippie.
Both youths are students
travelling around Ontario
for the summer and their
paths happened to cross at
Grand Bend where they
have been spending the past
few weeks.
Jerry, 19, left Kirkland
Lake after he had written
his Grade 12 exams this
June with $30 in his pocket.

Kathy Martin
Toronto
"I admire the original
hippies for being different
but I don't feel many of
them exist anymore. It
seems to me that the
younger set are taking over
the hippie movement for
the sake of conforming."

Jim Connelly
Grand Bend
"They're a poor excuse
for life. I've got nothing
against a lot of them. It's
those dirty ones I don't like.
Some of them look
ridiculous."
