KNOX (PRESBYTERIAN) CHURCH, EAST -ST.
The church was temporarily supplied by as-
sistants to Rev. Dr. Ure until May, 1888,
when Rev. J. A. Anderson, B. A., formerly
of Whitechurch, was called and accepted the
position. Since that time the church mem-
bership has continued to increase, a good
financial footing has been gained, and Knox
church bids fair to prosper materially and
spiritually under the present dual pastor-
ate.
THE GAELIC CHURCH.
A Gaelic Mission was established in
Goderich in 1871, with Rev. A. McGillivray
in charge, For about six years worship
was conducted in the hall over the old Post
Office, but in 1876, on the union of the
congregations of the Church of Scotland
and the Free Church of Canada, the edifice
of the former body on Nelson street was
occupied by the Gaelic congregation, and
has continued in use for purposes of
worship in connection with that body to
the present time.
THE BRETHREN.
For a number of years the gathering of
Christians known as the Brethren has held
regular service in the room upstairs at the
corner of Kingston street and the Square.
THE SALVATION ARMY
has had a corps stationed here for some
years, and has a barracks on North st.

Something Regarding the Trade of the
Town—Some Pointers on Our
Local Hives of Industry
--Places of Note.
E NOW corse to a department
which will prove of interest to
all who desire to learn of the live men of
Goderich. All the wide-awake men may
not be here, but all that are here are wide
awake :
WM. LEE,
FORWARDER AND MARINE AGENT.
Over nineteen years ago Mr. William Lee
came to Goderich and took possession of the
Piper Flouring Mills, which he carried on
for five years. At the end of that period
he opened up business as a forwarder and
coal dealer at the harbor, and has continued
in that line up to the present time. In
addition he was largely interested in the
shipment of tanbark and firewood to De-
troit and Chicago, and was the means of
working up this trade to a considerable ex-
tent. During the past fifteen years he has
also been the local agent for the Northwest
Transportation Co., at this point, and has
proved to be one of the most 'energetic
agents on the whole route of that Company.
He has been largely interested in the lake
trade as part owner of a number of schoon-
ers, and has taken an active part in en-
deavoring to develop our harbor trade.
He has also represented the Royal Canadian
Marine Insurance Co., at this port, and has
carried on the business to the satisfaction
of his company and their patrons. At pre-
sent he does the bulk of the coal trade in
Goderich and the surrounding district, and
during the past few years has practically
swept all opposition out of sight.
WHITELY & EDWARD,
DEALERS IN APPLES AND GENERAL PRODUCE.
This well-known produce firm has been
doing business in town for some years and
has already established a reputation as a
large exporting house. Their export trade
last year exceeded $80,000. They deal in
all kinds of produce, but have made a
specialty of the apple trade. The members
of the firm are Messrs. A. Whitely and J.
H. Edward, both of whom are known to be
pushing and enterprising business men.
