Lucknow marks Remembrance Day
Ruth Dobrensky
Lucknow News
This past Monday, Remembrance Day
services were held all over Canada to
commenorate all the service men and
women who have fought in wars around
the world to ensure our liberty and allow
us to live in freedom in this great country
of ours.
The service in Lucknow was held at St.
Peter's Anglican Church followed by the
march to the Cenotaph for the laying of
the wreaths. Those of us who were
observing were able to place our poppies
on wreaths or on a cross with a relatives
Human skull found
Bruce Peninsula OPP confirmed Thurs-
day a human skull was found in the woods
off Northem Trail in South Bruce Peninsula
but said foul play is not suspected.
The OPP issued a news release late Thurs-
day afternoon confirming it had received a
report about the remains the day before at
12:25.
Bruce Peninsula OPP, the crime unit,
emergency response team and forensic
identification unit are investigating with the
help of the coroner's office. "The investiga-
tion is in its early stages."
The Sun Times received an anonymous
tip Wednesday that a man who identified
himself as a police officer told a woman he
had found a skull behind her home while
out hunting around Northem Trail. That's a
narrow gravel road which runs north of Spry
Lake Rd., between Wiarton and Oliphant.
Wednesday neighbours on Northern Trail
said in interviews they had been talking
since Tuesday about a report they'd heard
that a skull had been found around there.
Police ask anyone with information that
could help them investigate this incident to
call them at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous
tips could be left with Crime Stoppers at
1-800-222-8477 or to crimestop-gb.org.

name on it. I, as usual, placed my poppy

There was a time in 1977, on my first
visit to France when I wandered the
graveyards in the Calais area and found
the grave of my uncle Michael Dobren-
sky, aged 19, who was killed there in 1944.
Everyone, whether they lost a relative in
any war or not, should make a point of
going to such a place at least once in their
life. My first sight of all those graves was
from the deck of the ferry going from
Dover to Calais, it was July, hot and sunny,
but the French coast from miles out
looked like there was a coat of snow all

along the coast line. The snow turned into shapes of tombstones
and crosses once the ferry got closer to Calais and then the enor-
mity of the number of graves in just that one part of the world hit
me. All those mostly young people like my uncle, died for us, so
we could live the good life, while their lives were cut short.
Last week the flu shots were available for everyone, either at
the local pharmacy or at the doctors offices. My neighbour Mar-
cia and I had ours done at Lucknow Pharmacy, and very profes-
sionally done it was, although I was disappointed that we didn't
get lollypops for being good girls.
The Lucknow & Ripley Holiday shopping pass started last Fri-

Lucknow Central Public School had a
taste of the Grey Bruce Eat and Learn
Nutrition Program recently.
Volunteers prepare food from at least
three of the food groups including fresh
fruit and vegetables, yogurt and cheese.
All classrooms have the bounty deliv-
ered to their classrooms every morn-
ing, with students having the opportu-
nity to help themselves.
Volunteers are desperately needed to
help deliver this program.
Those able to take an hour out of
their day to assist can call the school at
