Looking back on his years of service, the club has changed greatly from the "shirt and tie" policy when he first started decades ago, to a more "casual" approach for the young persons' club. McDonagh said he made life-long friends, secured numerous business deals and networking opportunities through the organization, which at its core is a social club with goals set on benefiting the members and community. "The club is very well respected in town and we're always interested in bringing in new people," he said. "It's a very healthy organization and I believe we're at an all- time high." Twice a president of the club, McDon- agh said he's "a better person" for being part of the Kinsmen, through the leader- ship roles he learned, the people he met and the experiences he had along the way. He said many people move on from the club to become municipal leaders, as well as business, church leaders, coaches and other beneficial roles in the community. "Everyone comes out of the Kinsmen with a strong sense of community," he said. Lucknow Kinsmen History A look back at the organization's his- tory in `Lucknow... The place we call home' 1858-2008 reveals the organization was originally chartered by the Wingham Kinsmen Club in November 1973 with a membership of 27, while the Kinettes were founded in March, 1974. Notable achievements included the creation of the Lucknow Tennis Courts in 1981, The Kin Ball Park in 1984 and upgrades to Caledonia Ball Park and Luc - know and District Sports Complex. Funds have also seen upgraded equipment for the Lucknow Fire Hall and Wingham Hospital. Both Kinsmen and Kinettes worked to create the three -pitch soccer field at the north edge of Lucknowbetween 1997 and 2006, seeing it expanded from one field to three, with the erection of a soccer pavil- ion, concession booth and washrooms. The Kinettes are responsible for the organization of a Candystriper program at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, with a popular Spring Fashion Show running its first 13 years. The club also organized many social events including suppers, mystery tours, dances, Kin Kid parties and conventions.
