Kincardine News
Huron -Kinloss Township's Ice Cream Trail licked
the competition at the Ontario Tourism Summit last
week, taking top honours for Best Tourism Market-
ing Initiative Under $25,000.
The award was presented Nov. 14 by the Ontario
Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation and
coordinator Taralyn Martin said the win was based
on a combination of their merketing package that
included brochures, facebook marketing, signage
and "anything else we could do to help market it."
'And we got a nice trophy, a certificate and brag-
ging rights," Martin laughed. "It's really great recog-
nition for our small municipality. An Ontario tour-
ism award like this is pretty awesome."
The award category applies to any marketing
activity, combination of activities or campaigns

product (destinations, attractions, tour
operators and hospitality suppliers).
Martin said the past three years of the
Ice Cream Trail photo scavenger hunt
has been a challenge, but added the
township has a great team, with support-
ive businesses, like the 11 that took part
in 2013, to make it a unique event to
draw visitors to the area.
"A lot of people have their hands in it,"
said Martin. `And I think that's the nature
of the Trail, to partner with businesses
and help make it a success."
Over 800 participants have completed
and submitted their photos as entry into
a draw for Huron -Kinloss Bucks, to be
spent at stores within the township. Mar-
tin said last year's theme centred around
Lucknow and Ripley's 150th fall fairs and
work is currently underway on a new
theme for the 2014 season.
The Ice Cream Trail's award edged out
the Municipality of Kincardine's `Trust
Us It's Big' tourism campaign promoting
the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band's Sat-
