Wawanosh brings the Gold Home for Huron Reba Jefferson The Wawanosh Golden Girls repre- senting Huron County won the Provin- cial Go for the Gold Championship held at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair on November 2, 2013. The win- ning team consisted of Kate Higgins, Melissa Higgins, Reba Jefferson, Jolande Oudshoorn and Jeanette Schramm; with Mary Ellen Foran and Marita Oudshoorn as coaches. For 32 years, Go for the Gold has been an inte- gral part of many 4-H projects across the province. In order for teams to par- ticipate at the provincial level, they must have competed and won at their local county level and at their regional level. The competition presents the ultimate challenge to members by test- ing their skills and knowledge of 4-H, agriculture, food, nutrition and current events. At the Royal Winter Fair, the Huron County team (Region 5) competed against all 4-H Regions, whose teams were from the counties of Sudbury, Carleton, Prince Edward, Halton and Oxford. Each game was about 30 min- utes in length and was formatted with short answer, assigned multiple choice, who/what am I, team discussion and snapper (true/false) questions. After the round robin tournament of five games, the two teams with the highest accumulated points from the total of all games played advanced to the Championship game. The Wawanosh Golden Girls were leading in points and therefore qualified them for the Championship game against the Halton County team (Region 4) who was in second place. It was a very close game but the Wawanosh team pulled ahead at the end of the game, and won 165 to 155 points. The Wawanosh Golden Girls would like to thank the Ontario Mutual Insur- ance Association for sponsoring the event and the Royal Winter Fair for supporting the event. It was a wonder- ful experience for all the 4-H members participating. An additional thank you goes to all the volunteers who acted as judges and scorekeepers, and to the organizational committee. The Wawanosh 4-H Golden Girls were excited about their recent win of the Go For the Gold Competition at the Royal Winter Fair. L -R: Mary Ellen Foran (coach), Reba Jefferson, Jolande Oudshoorn, Melissa Higgins, Jeanette Schramm, Kate Higgins and Marita Oudshoorn (coach). Ew liicknow Sentinel Kincara`inegis ONE B cws 2;00'' ;i-: bein ATTENTION BUSI Booking deadli S, DON'T MISS OUT! e is November 11.
