Remember to be safe
during hunting season
Dec. 2 was opening day for
some controlled deer hunts and
muzzleloader deer seasons
across much of Southern and
Central Ontario and the Ontario
Conservation Officers Associa-
tion (OCOA) is reminding hunt-
ers to practice safe and responsi-
ble hunting.
All hunters are responsible to
ensure they are always handling
firearms in a safe manner at all
times.
"Safe use of firearms can't be
stressed enough," said OCOA
President Joe McCambridge. `All
hunters heading out need to
remember to practice safe fire-
arm handling at all times."
The OCOA would like remind
all hunters to remember ACTS
and PROVE: • Assume every fire-
arm is loaded. • Control the muz-
zle direction at all times. • Trigger
finger must be kept off the trigger
and out of the trigger guard. • See
that the firearm is unloaded -
PROVE it safe. • Point the firearm
in the safest available direction..
Remove all ammunition. •
Observe the chamber. • Verify the
feeding path. • Examine the
bore.
"We want everyone to have an
enjoyable hunt and by remem-
bering these safety rules we can
ensure that the sport of hunting
will continue to be enjoyed by all
outdoors people in Ontario," said
McCambridge.

encouraged to call the Ontario
Ministry of Natural Resources

contact their local CO directly, or
call Crime Stoppers at 1800 -222 -

New positions established
to aid youth exiting CAS care
The Ministry of Children and Youth
Services has announced a number of
new resources, including two new posi-
tions, to support youth who are in or
leaving the care of Children's Aid
Societies.
Among the supports announced in a
media release, was the Youth -in -Tran-
sition -Worker (YITW) Program, which
will provide funds to community agen-
cies to support eligible young people to
identify, access, and navigate adult
service systems relevant to their needs.
It will also assist them in a transition to
adulthood, providing emotional
support.

ports, education resources, employ-

(e.g. financial management, household
management), health and mental

The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey
Bruce has a long history assisting youth
in Grey and Bruce counties. We are very
happy to have had our application
accepted.
YMCA will be hiring a YITW position
very shortly and beginning discussions
with Bruce Grey Child & Family Serv-
ices and other related organizations to
get this new program underway.
