views on `Liberal
Seat Saver'
The Liberals' arbitrary moratorium
on wind projects - an attempt to save
Liberal seats ahead of the 2011 elec-
tion - has resulted in two lawsuits that
could end up costing Ontario taxpay-
ers more than both gas plant cancela-
tions, announced PC Green Energy
Act Critic Lisa Thompson today.
The Wynne government is facing
lawsuits by two companies whose
wind projects were cancelled as a
result of the pre-election
moratorium.
"It seems every other day the price
tag goes up on saving Liberal seats,"
said Thompson. "If the government
loses these lawsuits it could cost tax-
payers $2.7 billion - on top of the $1.1
billion it cost to cancel the gas plants:'
Trillium Power Wind Corp has filed
a $2.25 billion lawsuit and Wind -
stream Energy is seeking damages in
the amount of $475,230,000. Ironi-
cally, Windstream Energy has cited
the payouts for the cancelation of the
Mississauga and Oakville gas plants as
a reason they should be
compensated.
"Aside from the callous disregard for
the taxpayers who actually end up
paying this bill, the Liberals' arbitrary
approach to our energy industry is
chasing jobs out of our province," said
Thompson.
"The PCs have put forward a sensi-
ble approach to energy that will once
again make Ontario a welcome place
to invest in and create jobs."
The PC approach relies on three key
principles:
Bringing government back to its
proper, limited role in the energy
sector.
Putting an end to expensive subsi-
dies to ensure affordable energy rates
businesses and households can
depend upon.
Focusing on sources of energy that
have proved reliable and affordable in
Ontario - such as hydro, nuclear and
natural gas.
"Enough is enough. This scandal -of -
the -month government is well past its
best before date. It's time to bring
accountability and affordability back
to Ontario - and bring the jobs back
with them," concluded Thompson.

Was that not a great Santa Claus
parade last Friday night?
It was great to see all those wonderful
floats and all the people who braved the
cold to come out and enjoy the parade.
The after parade events at the arena and
in the stores along Campbell Street that
stayed open late added to the festivities
of the evening. It was also good of Santa
to make time in his busy schedule to
come to Lucknow for our parade. I
would say I don't know how he man-
ages to attend so many parades in so
many towns at this time of year, but, as
all of us women know, Mrs. Claus is the
power behind the throne and a whiz at
organizing and scheduling all of Santa's
engagements.
We hope that the food drive organ-
ized by the Girl Guides and the Fire
Department was successful, the local
food banks in Wingham are especially
busy at this time of year and many area
families depend on them to provide a
great Christmas dinner for their
families.
For all of our Jewish friends out there,
we hope you have had a Happy Hanu-
kah so far and that the final Seder
tomorrow night will be especially
joyful.
Many area stores took part in Black
Friday sales to entice people to stay
home and shop instead of travelling to
the States. Some stores had special sales
or had tax free sales on providing incen-
tives to stay home to shop for
Christmas.
This coming weekend, our local
HAWK Theatre is presenting their
annual Christmas play, this year there
are two short plays which should be
great. Attend if you are able.
Most churches have begun their
Advent celebrations and will be hosting
special Christmas services, keep an eye
out for their ads so you know where and
when you can celebrate.

Purple Grove stays off `iffy'
roads in bad weather
Mary Anne Kukoly
There wasn't as much doing this past week with the 'iffy'
roads, but some of our folks enjoyed their get-to-gethers,
and we are looking forward to the Purple Grove concert on
the Dec. 13.
We understand that the "R" Villa bazzar went off very
well.
The family of Joyce Farrell gathered at their place to cele-
brate Joyce's birthday on Saturday evening. Also included in
the gathering were Karen, Leonard and Marsha Farrell; June
and Earl Elliott; and Mary Anne Kukoly.
Kerry Boyle of Ottawa visited with her mother Irene Boyle
in Kincardine and they visited with other family members
during the weekend.
Sheena Houghton and children of Michigan visited with
her parents Shirley and Doug MacDonald on the weekend.
Also visiting were Meagan and Airk, Diane, Andrew and
Alex, James MacDonald and Glen Farrell.
Congratulations to Bernice and Carmen Courtney on the
birth of another granddaughter to their daughter Sarah and
Danny Blank of Hamilton.
