New Defibrillator at the Dungannon Agricultural Society Hall
Valerie Gillies
Editor, Lucknow Sentinel
Almost one year ago there
was a fatality in the community
of Dungannon that brought
the issue of difibrillators to the
attention of the Dungannon
Lions. The Lions took the initi-
ative to approach the Agricul-
tural Society and began raising
funds to purchase a defibrilla-
tor for the Agricultural Society
Hall.
An OPP officer heard of the
goal of the Lions and matched
them with the Dave Mounsey
Memorial Fund which is dedi-
cated to donating and promot-
ing the use and widespread
availability of life-saving defi-
brillators. Dave Mounsey was
dedicated to the community in
his work and in his life. The
Dave Mounsey Memorial
Fund which was established in
2010, honours and remem-
bers the fallen Law Enforce-
ment, Fire, Paramedic and Mil-
itary members who have made
the ultimate sacrifice.
The combined efforts of the
Dungannon Lions and the
Dave Mounsey Memorial
Fund has resulted in the
purchase of 2 defibrillators for
Dungannon, one at the Agri-
cultural Society Hall and one
that will be dedicated later this
fall for the Dungannon Seniors
Hall.
Benn Lobb MP was on hand
at the September 20, 2014 pres-
entation and dedication of the
defibrillator at the Dungannon
Agricultural Hall. He remarked
that the Prime Minister also
has a personal connection with
a gentleman who did not sur-
vive a heart attack while play-
ing hockey. The Prime Minister
has made it a priority, along
with the Heart and Stroke
Foundation, to have these defi-
brillators put into arenas across
Canada. Lobb offered to help
the local communities with
securing funding and grants
for programs and equipment
needed.
Deb Finch, president of the
Dave Mounsey Memorial
Fund, was pleased to
announce that this particular
defibrillator will be the 33rd
that the foundation has been
honoured to dedicate. This
particular defibrillator is dedi-
cated in memory of Bruce
Crew.
