NOTICE Annual Meeting & General Meeting of the Christ Church Port Albert September 20, 2014 at 9 a.m. Christ Church Port Albert 7 London Road Port Albert, Ontario Wednesday, September 17, 2014 • Lucknow Sentinel 9 A Sepoy Town Extravaganza Fashion, Music, Song & Dance Jayne Miltenburg One hundred years of fash- ion, music, song and dance is how Marion Kernighan describes her "passion for fashion". HAWK theatre is pleased to present one of the six shows she is putting on this year at the Lucknow United Church on October 4. Two shows, at 1:30 pm or 7:30 pm will bring local models and Marion's own group of volun- teers to entertain with a musi- cal comedy show, done by authentic clothing through the ages including 26 musical numbers. Marion's hobby of making porcelain dolls and outfitting them in replica costumes, meant she had to source antique or vintage clothing to make their dresses and outfits. When she realized these vin- tage clothing were too nice to cut up for doll clothing, she started collecting them instead. When her collection grew she decided to put on fashion shows, thinking other people would enjoy seeing the clothing modelled. Her extensive collection includes up to 500 pieces, starting from the 1860's up to and including the 1970's. She has researched extensively fashion design for each dec- ade and knows exactly what hat, earrings, necklace, gloves, purses, shoes or boots should match the dress or suit. Now this isn't just a show for the ladies. Men get in on the act too. Remember those polyester leisure suits? Well some lucky gentlemen might just be modelling one! Bowler hats, saddle shoes, bloomers, bustles, poodle skirts, flapper dresses....These are just some of the fashion trends that might be shown. Each one of Marion's shows are totally different and unique! Depending on the venue, and the variety of mod- els available, she can source from her extensive collection. She was so happy that one of the models for the Lucknow show is slim. "They had such tiny waists back then", that she is able to use some of the vintage clothing she hasn't had anyone model for a long time. Some of the highlights for the Lucknow show include four gentlemen cloggers; the "Charleston dance"; two girls singing "I Don't Want to Play in Your Yard',a song from the 1880's; "Puttin' on the Ritz"; an accapella trio from Petrolia called Sisters of Choice doing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"; Jordan Henry of Goderich, singing "Danny Boy'; "Mon- tego Bay" by Steve Carapite. Musical accompaniment on piano will be by Angus Sinclair. Tickets are $20.00 advance only and are available at the following locations: Everlast- ings Flowers & Gifts, Luc - know; Jerome Flowers & Gifts, Kincardine; Sue Nich- ols Pottery, Ripley; Earth Angel, Wingham or by call- ing 1-519-528-3019.
