Ripley -Huron Community School News
Graham Martin
Students and staff were
divided into house colours
this week as part of our plan
for continuing to develop
school spirit and a strong
sense of community. Over
the course of the year,
students are reminded of the
ten Bluewater Character
Traits, and what it means to
be a Ripley Raven and 'fly
above the line: Staff award
house points when they see
students go out of their way
to be kind, caring or
respectful. At other times,
house points are just a fun
way to encourage everyone
to participate in our school
spirit days. When asked
about how they thought they
could earn house points,
Mrs. Wilken's Gr. 1/2 class
said: `by saying sorry if you
accidently bump somebody;
`by helping somebody to tie
their shoes; 'by being a good
friend; 'by picking up gar-
bage if you see some on the
floor' and `by telling the
teacher if somebody gets
hurt so they can get a
bandaid:
House points are tallied
several times throughout the
year, and the winning colour
spends 40 minutes with the
principal on a Friday after-
noon doing
fun activities. The overall
winners celebrate with an ice
cream treat at the end of the
year. Our overall goal is to
provide a respectful, fun and
caring environment where
students know it is a safe
place to learn and grow.
