Fire at Lucknow
Christian
Reformed
Church
Valerie Gillies
A resident of Lucknow was
walking his dog on August
25, 2014, when he noticed
the sound of a smoke detec-
tor coming from the Chris-
tian Reformed Church. He
called the Property Commit-
tee Chair to report the
alarms. Later he noticed
smoke and called the fire
department, who received
the call at 6:00 a.m. Both
arrived at the church at the
same time to discover a fire
on the stage in the
sanctuary.
Rev. Ken deBoer reports
that the small fire was
caused by the overheating of
some electrical equipment.
It caused extensive smoke
damage to the sanctuary as
well as some water damage
to the downstairs. The
church has been assured
that their insurance is cov-
ered, however that is for
known work. One never
knows what will come up.
The restoration people
through the insurance were
already on site on the same
Monday as the fire. The
sanctuary is currently empty
and a skylift was brought in
to clean the smoke off of the
ceiling.
Rev. de Boer would like to
express the gratitude of him-
self and the congregation to
all who have helped in the
circumstances, from those
who brought cookies on the
day of the fire to those who
offered space, not just for
services, but for the various
programs and meetings as
well. The Christian
Reformed Church is utilizing
space in all of the churches
in town for their programs
and is currently meeting for
services at 9:30 a.m. on Sun-
days at the Lucknow Presby-
terian Church.
