Bruce County
Plowing Match
Submitted
The 2014 Bruce County
Plowing Match was very
successful again this year.
Ideal weather brought a
large crowd and 11 horse
plowers and 39 tractor
plowers to the farm of Rick
and Mike Smith and family
just south of Ripley. Com-
petition was stiff and there
were many excellent lands
plowed. The crowd enjoyed
a Bruce County Beef BBQ
and many exhibits by local
businesses and a large
crowd followed the GPS and
equipment demo by local
dealers hosted by Peter
Johnson of OMAFRA. The
formal awards presenta-
tions will be made Nov 1 at
the Bruce County Plow-
men's Association awards
banquette in the Tara
Legion.

One of the many demonstrations at the 2014 Bruce County
Plowing Match was the use of GPS for field work. Many
of the new tractors have integrated the technology that is
on the machinery so they can talk to each other and work
more efficiently together to avoid overlap, wasting materials
or missing strips. This tractor and tiller demonstrated the
difference between no till vs. worked. August 29, 2014.t

As with any event, the food tent at the
Bruce County Plowing Match just south
of Ripley was a favourite spot. The noon
crowd enjoyed their hearty meal under
sunny skies or canopies while waiting
for the Ambassador speeches to begin.
