HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 2014-10-29, Page 3Valerie Gillies/Lucknow Sentinel Peter Carter of Teeswater is an active fundraiser in the area. He, along with his wife Jo -Ann, raised over $11,000.00 for charities in 2014. Carter has certificates, a trophy and several medals as memory keepsakes of his very successful year. Carter has Successful Year of Fundraising Submitted A former Kinloss Township Resident, Peter Carter of Teeswater, had a great year of raising money for charity, as well as winning some memory keep- sakes in 2014. In January her raised $5,690.00 at E E. Madill High School for the Huron County (Wingham) Alzheimer Society Walk for Memories. Many Lucknow and area residents and businesses gave pledges. In May he raised funds for the Hike for Hospice, a 3 km walk held at For- mosa in aid of the Grey/Bruce Hospice at Owen Sound. Also in May, Carter won gold in the Grey/Bruce Seniors Games at Kincardine in the 3 km Pre- diction Walk for men just 5 seconds off of his predicted time. In the Seniors Games his partner, Robert Bonnett of Wingham (formerly of Kinloss Twp.), and Carter teamed up to win silver in crokinole at Hanover. In June, Carter and Bonnett travelled to Tavistock and came home with the Worlds Championship Recreation Doubles trophy in crokinole. He later pledged half of his winnings to Parkin - sons. Also in June, Peter and his wife Jo- Ann staged a one day Games Day at the Walkerton Knights of Columbus Hall, raising $1,502.00 for Sacred Heart Church Building Fund, Teeswater. Solo, bid euchre, regular euchre and crokinole attracted 132 players who came from as far away as Penetang and Parry Sound. In September the Carters walked in Wingham in the 5 km Terry Fox (Cana- da's Hero) Walk/Run. Also in Septem- ber Peter again canvassed in the Luc - know area, etc. and raised $3,105.00 for the Parkinson Society 5 km Superwalk that was held in Hanover. On Septem- ber 28 he competed against 80 other walkers of all ages and genders at Walk- erton in the Run/Walk for Health for Walkerton Hospital. He won the bronze medal in the 5 km walk with a time of 41 minutes, 30 seconds, a personal best. Peter Carter and his wife Jo -Ann competed at the Rotary Run/Walk in Thornbury on Sunday, October 19 (just Planning an event? Don't forget to advertise! Peter would like to thank everyone for their generous pledges of over $11,000.00 to help out various charities in 2014. The Parkinson receipts will come at the end of the year.
