Lots to Give Thanks For
Thanksgiving 2014 has come and gone but
there is much to be thankful for, so why stop in
early October?
Another edition of the Lucknow Sentinel is off to the
presses. While compiling this issue it is plain that there
is so much going on around us to give us pause. We
have some amazing citizens celebrating milestone
birthdays, fundraisers to keep our communities grow-
ing into the future and the appreciation shown to our
service club members for the contributions they make
to our communities year round.
Most of the fall fairs have come and gone, display-
ing the fruits of the labours of those who provide us
with our daily needs. Mother Nature has donned her
colourful robes in the many trees and vegetation. All
are in preparation for the coming season.
Before we know it, Hallowe'en will be upon us. It is
very fitting that a lot of the symbols for this spooky
night also include the bounty of the harvest. Excite-
ment fills the air as new sports seasons begin and
school programs are in full swing.
We have been reminded that this may be the time to
schedule fall preparatory maintenance to our homes
and vehicles. As we know, you never know when the
weather will suddenly and drastically change. It is also
time to plan your fall and winter wardrobe. Please
remember when you are clearing out the old to bring in
the new that you consider donating items that still have
lots of life in them to the agencies, clubs and businesses
that look after redistributing them to those who can
make use of them.
This is a good time to change up your activities. As the
days grow chilly and damp, many prefer to spend more of
their time indoors. There are all sorts of things to do in and
around the area to keep idle minds and bodies going
through the traditional shut-in months. Allyou have to do
is go out and find the right fit foryou and yours. One of the
best activities is to just go out and visit with your friends
and family. Take the time to renew and strengthen the
bonds and build wonderful memories for the future.
Many are looking forward to their holiday travel to
escape what is yet to come. This involves more than
just the trip itself. Make sure you have made arrange-
ments for looking after your home, any family mem-
bers including pets that will remain behind, take pre-
cautions to not have mail or other items building up
around your home to let uninvited intruders know that
the home is vacant for the duration of the travels.
Whatever you choose to do remember to go ahead
with an Attitude of Gratitude. Thanksgiving may
come just one day per calendar year, but like Christ-
mas, the sentiments and activities can be carried
throughout the year to enrich our own lives and the
lives of those with whom we share.

Shag Campbell
On Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 Shag
Campbell celebrated his 75th
birthday at the Goderich Grill.
Guests came from Middlemiss,
Newbury, Blyth, Sheppardton and
Goderich.
Menno Miller and Levi Yoder are
selling red and white potatoes for
$10.00 for a 50 lb. bag. Ed Shetler is
busy shoeing horses. Most of the
silos are full of corn and the beans
are coming off and wheat is going in.
There is log sawing at the Walk-
erton Fair which runs, 17th, 18th
and 19th.
Wayne and Dawn Tucker have
been spotted driving around in
their antique Dodge car.
The Thanksgiving service at
Christ Church, Port Albert was led
by retired Archdeacon John Spen-
cer of Stratford, assisted by Joan
Campbell. The church was all
decked out with fruits and vegeta-
bles, 3 sheaves of corn and an old-
fashioned wheelbarrow full of
stuff, and a huge arrangement of
tall weeds in a milk can.
The Alton boys, Brett and Jake
have been racing again this
summer. Brett has moved from his
65 CC bike to an 85 CC one that he
got for Christmas. He likes the big-
ger bike but struggles a bit with it.
Jake has been doing awesome this
year, finishing 3rd overall in the 50
CC intermediate class in the sum-
mer series and is now in 1st place
for the fall series. Jake got an early
birthday gift of a 2012 Cobra 50 CC
which he raced in the Walton
Trans Can National and placed
very well, 9th overall out of 18 rac-
ers from all over Canada and the
USA in the 50 CC 4-6 yr. old
class. Brett had the opportunity to
race in the Trans Can as well but
opted to just come and watch and
cheer on the other racers he knew
who were competing. Hopefully,
next year Brett will be more com-
fortable and confident on his 85
CC and will race the National as
well as with Jake. Good going boys.
Special notice to seniors—There
is a senior coffee hour every Thurs-
day at 10 a.m. at the Dungannon
Senior Centre. Come for a coffee
and a visit with friends.

Madge, we wish you many more Bea.
This past Sunday night, St. Peter's
Anglican Church held a combined
service in an evening service that
celebrated Harvest Home and Wel-
come back Sunday, but more impor-
tantly, celebrated the many hours of
work in the community that our
local Lions Club and Royal Canadian
Legion have performed here in Luc -
know. A good crowd from the com-
munity attended the special celebra-
tions and took time to partake of
refreshments where they could per-
sonally thank members of the Lions
and Legion for their contributions to
our community.
It's that time of year again when
churches and organizations all over
the area will be holding bazaars and
suppers and craft shows. Check out
the coming events ads so you don't
miss out on a chance for a great bar-
gain or a gourmet dinner.
Congratulations to Helene
Jakobsen on the opening of her
third store, the latest one in Lis-
towel. Well done Helene.
Once again our weather is doing
an up and down thingy that be
confusing to the system, one day
warm and rainy, the next sunny
and cold. Could we put in an order
for a nice, long Indian Summer
with steady temperatures. I for one
would really appreciate it.
Sympathy of the community to the
families of: June Dawson, 82, Lon-
don; Joyce Farrish, 64, Waterloo; and,
Hilda Schumacher, 91, Walkerton.
