Bruce Power to invest $86 million into Unit Ripley Fall Fair Results
5 during planned maintenance outage
Submitted
One of the world's top -
performing CANDU reac-
tors is now receiving $86.7
million worth of planned
maintenance, after a 516 -
day continuous run.
Bruce Power's Unit 5 was
safely removed from ser-
vice on Friday, Oct. 3, 2104
for the planned outage,
which is scheduled for 50
days. About 400 temporary
workers have been hired
for the outage.
"Unit 5 has completed
yet another impressive run
of continuous operation,
running without fail for the
people of Ontario since its
last planned maintenance
outage in early -2013," said
Brian O'Grady, Senior Vice
President, Bruce B. "Bruce
Power's $86 million invest-
ment in this planned main-
tenance outage will set up
Unit 5 well for another long
stretch of providing safe,
reliable and carbon -free
energy to the people of
Ontario."
Bruce Power will also
harvest about 25 rods of
Cobalt -60 from the Unit 5
reactor during the outage.
The Cobalt -60 will be used
by Ottawa -based MDS
Nordion to sanitize medi-
cal instruments to help
maintain public safety in
our hospitals, O'Grady
added. Bruce Power is the
largest supplier of
Cobalt -60 in Ontario.
