Wilson explains that in the United Church of Can- ada, in order to become a minister you must have a home congregation as a sponsor. Her sponsor was Norvel United Church. The congregation there pre- sented her with her profes- sionally framed copy of her Ordination Certificate at the time of her ordination. Suzanne Irwin, Chair of the Search Committee for Lucknow United Church had a role in the Conve- nanting Service. She relates that searching for a minister for the congregation was a long process and they had almost given up hope of finding a suitable candidate. However, when the Com- mittee first met Wilson they knew that she was the right fit for their congregation. Wilson expressed a high pri- ority for visiting the elderly, shut-ins and those who can- not attend the services at the church. Irwin states, "She has made herself part of our community, not just part of our congregation." Wilson has a good connec- tion with the youth in the church with 15 being con- firmed in the spring class, was well as starting a senior youth group. Austin Irwin is one of the youth of the Lucknow United Church that partici- pated in the spring class. He said his impression of the Covenanting Service was overall excitement. "I was a big moment for Lynne and the church." Irwin relates that it is a close knit church and Lynne was able to con- nect with the youth as if she was just another member of the congregation. "She can hang out and is friendly to all of us." Doreen Mali helped in the Convenanting Service as the Sunday School classes gave a presentation of "Why we love Lynne." Points included are that Wilson is Canadian and was born in P.E.I. She has embraced her new community and even ministers to those in the community on her morning walks whether the people belong to the congregation or not. She loves hockey and football and takes an active role in the Sunday School making the children feel that they are a part of their church. Ebans Halm, Chair of Council, quips that the Council took over the ser- vice the day of the Conve- nanting and gave Wilson the day off. Chair of Presbytery, Joyce Osborne of Ripley, took part in the service. Wil- son was presented with a quilt by the UCW and an engraved plate and challis from the congregation. Halm reported "Wilson rep- resents the congregation and the Church well." She visits shut-ins and makes regular hospital visits. Wil- son takes in a lot of the pro- grams in both the church and the community. She gives good sermons and is appreciated for her funeral services.
