The 151st Lucknow Fall Fair
is now history, and work begins on next year's event.
Thanks to those dedicated fair goers who took in the events
all the while dodging the rain, rain, rain!
The Agricultural Society certainly appreciates the strong support received from the Lucknow Kinettes
who spearhead the parade; all the bands, floats and individuals who didn't let the ram impede their
enthusiasm; all entertainers; vendors; exhibit participants; farm organizations; the Lucknow District
Fire Department; Harry Brindley, auctioneer; the Kinsmen; the Lions; those who provided impressive
pieces of machinery for the Touch the Truck event; and area ministers. The arena staff does a
marvelous job in accommodating our many requests and keeping the facility spic and span!
And of course, where would we be without the generous sponsorship of local
businesses and many from outside our local area who take a keen interest in assisting
the Agricultural Society with the annual fair. We extend our gratitude!
To all those who work in some capacity at keeping the fair an annual event and
— giving of themselves in so many ways, the word thank you doesn't accurately
express our sincere appreciation.
The board of directors truly appreciates the thousands of hours given by
everyone who helped pull off Number 151!
TD Securities is acting as
exclusive financial advisor
to Quebecor on this
transaction.
The transaction is subject
to approval by the Compe-
tition Bureau. While it is
under review, Sun Media
Corporation will continue
managing the assets and
publications in question.
"Consumers now have
many ways to get their
news, and as a result the
newspaper business has
faced increasing competi-
tion from digital media
and new technological
platforms. Newspaper rev-
enues have been declining
year by year," said Pierre
Dion, President and CEO
of Quebecor and Quebecor
Media. "This transaction
therefore comes at a time
when the Canadian news-
paper business absolutely
needs consolidation to
remain viable and to com-
pete with digital media.
The transaction will also
keep Sun Media Corpora-
tion's properties in the
hands of a well-established
Canadian group. Postme-
dia possesses extensive
expertise and the ability
and will to invest in these
publications' long-term
development. This is good
news for the Canadian
newspaper business and
the people who work in it."
Quebecor, a Canadian
leader in telecommunica-
tions, news media, enter-
tainment and culture, is
one of the best -performing
integrated communica-
tions companies in the
industry. Driven by their
determination to deliver
the best possible customer
experience, all of Quebe-
cor's subsidiaries and
brands are differentiated
by their high-quality, mul-
tiplatform, convergent
products and services.
"I want to thank all the
employees who have
devoted their talents and
energies every day to
informing their commu-
nity," said Julie Tremblay,
President and CEO of Sun
Media Corporation. "Sun
Media Corporation's suc-
cess has been built on their
passion and dedication,
year after year. Postmedia
will be able to count on
teams that demonstrate
the ability to innovate in a
fast -changing industry!'

October is Canadian Library Month — Libraries Inspire!
Submitted
The Canadian Library
Association is proud to
proclaim that October has
been designated as Cana-
dian Library Month. The
idea for a month dedicated
to library and information
services in Canada was
developed by library part-
ners from across the coun-
try to help raise public
awareness of the impor-
tant role that libraries play
in the lives of Canadians.
Canada's libraries make
a meaningful difference in
the lives of individuals and
in our communities.They
help to inspire Canadians
to celebrate our culture, to
advance universal and
equitable access to infor-
mation, to support lifelong
learning and to document
and preserve our heritage
for generations to come.
This month, the inspira-
tion created in and by
libraries will be celebrated
with the theme "Libraries
Inspire!"
Today, over 23,0 0 0
librarians and library
clerks serve in over 22,000
libraries in incredibly
diverse communities, from
major metropolitan areas
to towns and rural ham-
lets, from research -inten-
sive universities to colleges
of art and design.
Over 21 million Canadi-
ans hold a public library
card, making public librar-
ies the most popular cul-
tural institution in the
country. Over 97 per cent
of Canadians live in com-
munities served by a pub-
lic library, and the library
adds to the vitality of every
one of these communities.
Across the country, librar-
ies will be holding a variety
of events to highlight the
impact of libraries in their
communities.
Bruce County Public
Libraries will be hosting a
series of "How -To" work-
shops throughout Octo-
ber. These quick, drop in
information sessions will
feature members from the
local community sharing
their expertise on many
topics including: "How to
use essential oils", "How to
employ a realtor when sell-
ing your home" and "How
to pair food with wine".
Another special event in
Chesley, Walkerton and
Lucknow is a "Show and
Tell for Grown -Ups" featur-
ing a visit from the Bruce
County Museum & Cultural
Centre and the Memory
Catchers where members
from the community can
share stories about their
personal treasures.
In Wiarton, Kincardine
and Port Elgin, author Jake
Doherty (The Rankin Files)
will read from his latest
book, Bearwalker Alibi.
The library will also cel-
ebrate Teen Read Week
October 12-18 by offering a
Twitter contest, prize bal-
lots for each book checked
out, teen movies and pro-
grams, and an opportunity
for teens to connect with
their community and earn
community service hours
by becoming a Teen Tech
coach.
In addition to Canadian
Library Month is Ontario
Library Week from October
19 to 25. To acknowledge
the cultural importance of
libraries, Kincardine, Port
Elgin and Southampton
branches will offer "Scary
Stories for Grown-ups",
read over the lunch hour
by local celebrities and will
also resurrect the popular
"Food for Fines" program
with each food donation
earning $1.00 off current
library fines.
Bruce County Public
Library would like to thank
the communities we ser-
vice for their support by
hosting a Customer Appre-
ciation Day on October 25.
Members of the public are
invited to drop by for
refreshments throughout
the day. While there, take a
"shelfie" with your favour-
ite book and send it to us
via Instagram, Twitter or
email!
As always all library
events are free and open to
the public. Please contact
a local branch or check the
events page on the website
for more information:
