Canacra Aocna Member of the Canadian Community Newspaper Association and the Ontario Communal/ Newspapers Association Val's Views Valerie Gillies Time Marches On... lat seems that this edition of the Sentinel is all bout time and how it just keeps on going and going and going... It seemed odd to me that the first real snowfall of the season occurred on the evening of the Horticul- tural Society Banquet When I think of horticulture, I think of almost any oilier season than winter. It was certainly an enjoyable evening of socializing over a delicious roast beef dinner, then seeing the amazing slides of incredible plants and gardens pre- sented by Rea Hamilton Seeger. After hearing her talk, it made sense to have it at the end of the gar- dening season as it will give avid gardeners the chance to plan for their spectacular additions in the following growing season toward achieving their own gardens worth sharing with others. Another seasonal article is the kick-off of the holi- day season's RIDE and Red Ribbon Program. Again, it seemed a quirk of Mother Nature's to send us a storm with tricky driving conditions on the day scheduled for begirming this program for 2014. In the area of driving and being cautious and making allowances, there is the informative presen- tation given by Andy Burgess to the Dungannon Seniors on driving and maintaining your license as a senior. Burgess reminds drivers to adapt their driv- ing to their changing faculties and lifestyles. Moving backward in time there is a new area business to help high riskyouth. Right Track - Mov- ing Forward is a new approach to working with youth who find themselves in conflict with the law. Moving further back, or perhaps forward to Christmas, we have the HAWK Theatre production of "Stripes for Christmas". What better way to enjoy the holiday season than to watch the youth of our communities exhibit their talents to celebrate the coming festivities. There was lots of colour, talent and whimsy to be found at LCPS as staff and students participated in the 5th Annual Build a Potato Contest There was a vast array of creative characters depicting favourite story book characters. Even Lucky the Lynx made his spudly appearance in the mix. Finally, we have the marching of time honoured through the Legion. The Pee Wee hockey tourna- ment has seen the rewarding of a trophy to a win- ning team. The leisurely aspect of the Legion was captured in a friendly afternoon of darts and long- standing membership awards were presented at the Remembrance Banquet. Time marches on, it waits for no one. Enjoy each day and embrace each change. It all adds up to make an ongoing adventure of a lifetime. Lucknow News Ruth Dobrensky Well, only a month to go to until Christmas and the weather we've been getting is loolcing very much like a repeat of last winter. But it does remind us all that it is "that" special time of year again and everyone is out and about getting ready for Christmas. We here in Lucknow are not so differ- ent, all the stores and shops are deco- rated, there are special sales on and incentives to buy locally and possibly win a Huron -Kinloss shopping spree for yourself. A big event coming this coming Friday at 7 p.m. on the main street in Lucknow will be our Santa Claus Parade. The theme this year is "Christmas in the Future" and the Girl Guides will be out collecting food for the foodbanIc with the help of the Lucknow Fire Department. So don't forget to come out for the parade, bring a few things for the food - bank, say hi to Santa and Mrs. Claus and get into the spirit of Christmas. Another yearly event is the mitten tree at the Sentinel office, all mittens, socks, hats, scarves, etc. that are collected are given to the Salvation Army for their Christmas packages. Drop by with a contribution, ifyou can. A little bird told me that Gordon Mor- rison recently celebrated his 98th birth- day. Happy belated birthday Gordon. Last week the Lucknow SepoyRanees met at Mary's Family Restaurant for lunch and a social time. Not only did the red hat group look great (as always), the company was excellent, and the recep- tion and food at Mary's was just great. Since, as I noted above, it looks like a repeat of last year's winter weather, be prepared for snow dates and school can- cellations, as well as for drivers who pay no attention to road conditions; but, also remember to watch out for the driver behind the driver in front of you. Sympathy of the community to the family of Pauline Ruxton, 84, Kincardine. Purple Grove News Purple Grove WI It was a quieter week in Purple Grove, maybe had something to do with the snow.
