Grade 2 Celebration of The Day of the Dead on October 31, 2014.
LCPS Celebrates Day of the Dead

When studying about Mon-
arch butterflies and their
migration to Mexico, we began
to leam about the Mexican cel-
ebration of Dia de Muertos or
The Day of the Dead. In Mex-
ico, from October 31st to
November 2nd, they remem-
ber loved ones who have died.
It is a happy celebration with
dancing, singing, parades and
food. People visit the cemetery,
often cutting the grass and
decorating with marigolds.
They have picnics at the ceme-
tery too. At home, they deco-
rate with skeletons and set out
pictures of loved ones with
candles, setting out things that
belonged to their loved ones,
as well.
For our classroom celebra-
tion on October 31, 2014 we
decorated, brought in pic-
tures of people that we love
who have passed away and
displayed them. We had a
Mexican feast of yummy food
and had fun completing
crafts. We made skeletons
from tooth picks, tissue paper
marigold flowers, beaded
necklaces, skull masks and
handmade tortillas. We even
did the Mexican Hat Dance!!
Thank you to Amanda Mof-
fat for helping decorate and
cook and Jordarma Shular and
Angela Eadie who prepared
food and helped run our cen-
tres. It was a fantastic day!!!
