Lucknow Lancers
WOAA Senior AA

The Lucknow Lancers regular
season got underway on Satur-
day October 11, with the team
squaring off against the Ripley
Wolves. The game, played in Rip-
ley, got off to a rocky start for the
Lancers with the Wolves taking
an early lead only 10 seconds
into the game. Having the first
game jitters out of the way, the
Lancers fought back and evened
the score with 5 minutes left in
the period with rookie Jamie
Miller opening the scoring for the
Lancers. Carrying their momen-
tum into the second period, the
Lancers took their first lead of the
game with veteran Janis Ireland
scoring less than a minute into
the period. The game continued
as a back and forth battle seeing
both teams trade multiple goals,
Lucknow's goals coming from
veteran Matt McClinchey and
wily veteran Ean Moffat, but the
period would end with Wolves
getting a goal with 1 second
remaining to give Ripley a 5-4
lead. The third period followed
the pace of the second with both
teams trading goals, Janis Ire-
land scoring his second off the
game for the Lancers. As the
period neared the halfway point,
the Wolves would score once
again to take a 7-5 lead and seal
the game handing Lucknow their
first loss of the season.
The Lancers continued their
season the following Friday,

October 17th, on the road once
again playing the Saugeen Shores
Winterhawks in Port Elgin. The
game got underway in a similar
fashion to the previous weeks
game with the Winterhawks tak-
ing an early lead. The Lancers got
into penalty trouble early on as
well, giving the skilled powerplay
of Saugeen Shores opportunity to
take a commanding lead, ending
the second period with a 5-1 lead
over the Lancers, Lucknows goal
scored by Matt McClinchey.
Although Lucknow would end
the game tying the Winterhawks
for shots in the game, their sec-
ond period goal would be all the
scoring the Lancers could mus-
ter. Saugeen Shores would score
2 more goals in the third period,
ending the game with a final
score of 7-1 for the Winterhawks.
