What a week it has been! We have gone from sunshine to rain to, dare I say it, snow pellets. Not only the weather has been changeable, but the happenings in the area have included a mixed bag, as well. Of course there were pumpkins carved and costumes of many makes and sizes as we marked another All Hallow's Eve, better known as Halloween. This was followed closely on the heels by the Poppy Drive by the Legion leading up to Remem- brance Day. Widi recentviolence talcing place in our nation's capital and elsewhere, endangering our military personnel, it brings the importance of honouring those who protect us to the fore- front It is commendable that so many have shown their support of our troops and first responders as a way to deal with the tragedies that have struck Yes, these brave citizens have chosen dangerous careers, but it is their dedica- tion that keeps us safe to carry on with our lives, even as they risk theirs. The very same day as the Poppy Drive, the Luc- lcnow United Church was getting people started on their Christmas decorating and gifting. It seems that within 24 hours we had touched October, November and December. Time seems to be passing fast enough as itis, even with the clocks having fallen back on the weekend. We have just gotten through our municipal elections. Now there have been local conventions for both the Liberal and Conservative parties to gear up for provincial and federal elections. Time keeps right on marching forward, as we must do, as well. Fall is most certainly a season of transition. Our special days and celebrations mark the passing of time. We are approaching the shortest days of daylight in the year. With this in mind, we should be striving to make every day count. Time is a gift we are all given. We are never sure how much we have, but we can make an effort to use it wisely. But, just like the weather and the special days we mark, remember to mix it up a bit to experience the joy of a well- rounded and well -lived life. Lucknow News Ruth Dobrensky Congratulations and happy 80th birthday to Marie Collingwho will be celebratingwith her family and friends this coming weekend. Kingarf Anglican Church held their annual beef bbq and the Auburn Lions held a pancake brealcfast with proceeds going to the CENXRadiothon. Also this past weekend, Lucknow United Church held their annual bazaar and bake sale and lunch with something available for everyone. This coming weekend, there will be a blood donor clinic at the community centre, if you are able to donate blood, please consider doing so, you never know when a loved one may need a transfusion. It was good to see that we have another bumper crop of scholars here in Lucknow. I'm sure that everyone congratulates all the students who have won awards and scholar- ships and have started college or university. Well now that our municipal elections are over, we hope that our new mayors and councils will do their due diligence for our communities Sympathy of the community to the fami- lies of: IsabellWilson, 92, Kincardine; Doris Rock, 80, Ripley; Ronald Lamont, 78, RR 3, Teeswater; Jennifer Claik 53, Teeswater; John Tideswell, 91, Goderich; and, Ann Berry, 77, Ashfield Twp. Dungannon St. Helens News Shag Campbell I always enjoyvisiting the farm of Menno Miller. It reminds me of farms when I was a little boy with its collection of sheep, goats, milk cows, cattle, chicken, turkeys, pigs and of course horses. Twenty of them. Johnny Miller is keeping busy sharpen- ing cross cut saws and repairing farm machinery. It is nice to see the Amish farmers ploughing with 4 horses and riding Purple Grove News Purple Grove WI There was a great response to the Curl- ing Club brunch on Sunday for the excel- lent food. Thanks to the folks at St. Andrews United Church for lunch and Bazaar on Saturday. Sympathy is extended to the family of Doris Rock. Mary Anne Kukoly, Janet Nixon, Deanna Scott and Marilyn Reid attended the Bruce County WI Rally at Port Elgin on a two furrow plough instead ofwalking behind a team and single furrow plough. Ben Van Diepenbeek is still our reeve for A.C.W. Congratulations Ben and to the rest of the council. I understand the Hallowe'en dance at the Dungannon Ag. Hall was a success. Don't forget about the coffee hour on Thursday morning at the Dungannon Sen- ior Centre. on Thrusday, October 23. The guest speakerwas DtHeather Ribey, DVM. She shared quite eloquently on the theme "Back to Basics on the Farm." Reverend Steve Lindsay of Stoney Creek was the guest speaker at the Teeswater Presbyterian Church who cel- ebrated their 155th anniversary on Sun- day, October 26. Rev. Lindsay was former pastor of both the Kinlough and Teeswa- ter churches.
