Shares her Experiences
Lucknow area family hosted
Clara Lopez from Spain
Hi everyone!
My name is Clara Lopez and I am
an exchange student from Barce-
lona, Spain. Some of you might
know me because I've been living
here since September last year, wow
it's been a long time actually, but it
has passed really fast.
You might be wondering how and
why; it all happened really fast I saw
this scholarship which offered 100
students all around Spain the
opportunity of studying in a Cana-
dian high school for the whole
school year and at the same time to
experience what life in Canada is
like. At first I was scared because
this experience would involve a long
period of time away from home but
when I saw all the positive things it
would bring I applied, and after a
process of tests I got accepted.
Barcelona is a city its population
is 1.621 million people, and at the
moment I'm living with
Steve,Tracey, Tanner, Chad, Kenzie
Simpson on a farm outside Luc -
know. So the impact was pretty big,
although I am so happy I got to
leave a completely different life
from which I learnt a lot of things
that are going to help me wherever I
go.
I am attending Grade 11 at F.E
Madill Secondary School in Wing -
ham with who has become my sister
Kenzie, and believe me, life in a
Canadian high school is completely

different from what I was used to; I
used to have a four -minute walk to
school every morning and now I get
to ride the yellow bus that I saw so
many times in the movies.
Living in a small community
made me a more sociable person
and I learnt the importance of com-
munity involvement, and as strange
as it might sound I didn't know the
neighbors above me in my home in
Barcelona. I have had so many great
experiences here, including your
great winters although this one was
a little bit too much. I remember the
weekend I was skating with my host
family on the front lawn, the trips to
Toronto, canoeing was so much fun
and also learning how to be a farm
girl.
I loved experiencing hockey night
games, Winterfest with my family
was awesome and also the first
weeks at Nana and Papa's cottage at
the lake. I got to take a break from
the cold weather and we went to
Florida and Dominican which were
two unreal trips.
I will take back all my memories
here and a few bottles of maple
syrup if they fit in my suitcase. Now
that I only have almost one month
left I only want to enjoy the rest of
the time here and I will never forget
how loved I've felt in the unique
town of Lucknow and the kindness
of its people.
Clara.
