Use Your Vote to Send a Message
Andrew Zettel
Family Coalition Party
Candidate, Huron Bruce
Dear Editor,
A voter recently told me
she would need to "plug her
nose" on Election Day, and
vote for one of the main-
stream parties. Apparently
the level of cynicism among
Ontario voters is at an all-
time high, as Ontarians feel
trapped into a decision
between the three main
political parties, none of
which will truly represent
their values and points of
view.
On one hand, the une-
lected premier Kathleen
Wynne leads a Liberal party
mired in a billion dollar gas
plant scandal, and a shaky
relationship with the teach-
er's unions.
Similarly, the Progressive
Conservatives can't seem to
connect with voters because
of Tim Hudak's forceful,
angry demeanour, and his
promised 100,000 public sec-
tor job cuts, which are
reminiscent of the Mike Har-
ris administration.
Finally, the NDP, under
Andrea Horwath, has pre-
sented a platform that is very
similar to that of the Liberals.
In fact, most political analysts
have stated that the NDP could
very well have supported the
Liberal budget because of its
increased taxation and
spending, and its refusal to
taclde the enormous deficit.
Instead, Ms. Horwath didn't
even show up to work on
budget day, triggering the elec-
tion we find ourselves in today.
In this climate, it's under-
standable that Ontarians don't
feel they'll have a viable option
on June 12th - but there is an
alternative. Perhaps it's time
for the people of this province
to vote with a clear conscience,
and to use their votes to send a
clear message to Queen's Park
If none of these parties can
support family values, smaller
government, and more power
to local politicians, do they
deserve your endorsement?
Can Ontario really afford the
status quo?
Which 934?
Jan Johnstone Launches Campaign to
Stop Hudak's Job Cuts
Submitted
Jan Johnstone, NDP candi-
date in Huron -Bruce,
launched a province wide
campaign questioning Tim
Hudak about his plan to fire
100,000 people in the
province.
"Tim Hudakhas committed
to firing 934 people in Huron -
Bruce under his 100,000 job
cuts plan," Johnstone said.
"The 934 families who depend
on those jobs here have a right
to know: Who is Tim Hudak
going to fire in Huron -Bruce?"
Hudak's plan to fire 100,000
people, means 934 jobs in
each of 107 ridings in the
province will be cut should
Hudakget elected.
Hudak has said repeatedly
said he will fire paramedics,
firefighters, teachers and edu-
cation workers under his jobs
cuts plan. "Tim Hudak has a
responsibility to tell the people
of Huron -Bruce region who
can expect to lose their job if
he's elected," Johnstone said.
She is deeply concerned about
the profound impact this
would have on families and
community in Huron -Bruce.
"Stronger communities are
not created by cutting services
and jobs that families depend
on. Unlike Tim Hudak Andrea
Horwath and the Ontario NDP
have a plan to create local jobs
by rewarding employers for
every new job they create with
a tax credit. New Democrats
will keep manufacturers in
Ontario by providing tax cred-
its when they invest in their
local operations," Johnstone
LUCKNOW NEWS
WHAT AN ADVENTURE
By Ruth Dobrensky
What a long weekend my
great-nephew Nick and I had.
We traveled to Toronto to my
cousin Pat's condo just off the
South Kingsway at the Queen-
sway. From there we TTC'd our
way to the ROM where we saw
the absolutelywonderful Chi-
nese exhibit from the Forbid-
den City. We then spent sev-
eral hours walking around
Chinatown, shopping, looking
and eating delicious Chinese
almond cookies with tea in a
Chinese bakery. We met up
with my cousin Pat at a Polish
restaurant for supper on Ronc-
esvalles. We started out Sun-
day morning by attending the
church I went to in Toronto
and then spent the afternoon
at the Hockey Hall of Fame,
where we had our picture
taken with the Stanley Cup. We
had a Ulcrainian supper at Pat's
and then went swimming in
her saltwater pool for the sec-
ond night in a row. We trav-
elled back to London via Cam-
bridge where I showed Nick
where I grew up and went to

school, which just happens to
be on the same road as the
Butterfly Conservatory which
we also visited before heading
on to London. All in all, we had
a great weekend and I got to
see a lot of old friends in
Toronto at my former church.
Before going to London last
Friday, I stopped at the Blyth
Theatre for some tickets and a
look at the art show in the gal-
lery which just finished there.
It featured the artwork of high
school students from the area.
Some of the names were famil-
iar to me as they are from stu-
dents who live in the area. I
must say, I was very impressed
with the artwork in general,
some was absolutely terrific,
and one student recreated the
entire Sistine Chapel, it was
phenomenal. Congrats to all
the students who had work in
the show.
This past Sunday several
churches in the area cele-
brated special anniversaries.
Congratulations to Lucknow
Presbyterian Church on their
141st anniversary; Chalmers
Presbeterian Church, White-
church, on their 150th anniver-
sary; and, Kinlough Presbyte-
rian Church, on their 151st
anniversary.
Happy 75th birthday to John
Thomson who celebrated at
the Wingham Legion last Sat-
urdaywith family and friends.

We were pleased to see
your focus in last week's
paper on National Dog Bite
Prevention Week. All the tips
presented to help keep kids
and dogs safe are important.
The Huron County Health
Unit would like to add one to
the list of Important Things
Dog Owners can Do: Get
your dog vaccinated against
rabies. Rabies vaccination is
mandatory for dogs in
Huron County. Rabies is
almost always fatal and is
