However, there are some forms that are more distressing and criminal in nature than others:The pranks occurring in Lucknow of late are most definitely of this category. There is a sign at the business of Nine Waves on Campbell Street in Lucknow. It is the type that has letters that can be mounted to change the message often. Over the years there have been times when people have played with rear- ranging the letters. The staff has appreciated the heads up they receive from the community when the message has been changed to enable them to quickly and quiedy fix the sign. Recently, there have been some messages cre- ated from the available letters that have contained sexually explicit, derogatory or racist comments. The most recent occurrances of this type were dis- covered on each morning of the Victoria long weekend. May17, 18 and 19 began with these dis- turbing messages on this particular sign. Morten Jackobsen, owner of Nine Waves believes that it is someone from the area due to the frequency of the pranks. Further, he assumes they probably did this after midnight when his security light was off and would have had to be tall enough and crea- tively intelligent enough to be able to accomplish the prank, or know of an app to do it, as they had only the letters already on the sign to work with. Explore the Bruce releases Tourism 101 Video" Bruce County Tourism Bruce County Tourism releases Tour- ism 101 video and Top 25 brochure to help familiarize front line staff about Bruce County's true tourism assets. Serv- ers, gas station attendants, cashiers and hotel concierge play a major role in the tourism industry. They frequently get asked the question, "What is there to do around here?" and we don't want the answer to be "Nothing." The goal of the video and brochure is to encourage front line staff to promote visitors to stay in Bruce County longer and leave their dol- lars in our downtowns, gated tourism destinations and in local businesses. "The Tourism 101 Video and Top 25 Brochure highlight the Top 5 things to do in Bruce County, the Top 10 activi- ties in northern Bruce County as well as the Top 10 activities in the southern parts of the County," says Tourism Man- ager Kim Clarke. "These Top 25 activi- ties will be promoted as our Signature Collection." When front line staff watch the videos and answer the questions, they will become a certified Explore the Bruce Ambassador complete with a certificate. "This program fits perfectly with our annual Familiarization Tour, a two day tour of Bruce County for front line staff and local tourism information centre staff," shares Clarke. "The video will also be shown at 2014 Familiarization Tour on June 18 &19th." You can find the Explore the Bruce Tourism 101 Video online at https:// www.youtube.com/ watch?v=RMvUjjk5dQk. You can pick up the Top 25 Brochure from any Bruce County Visitor Information Centre or by requesting one online atwww.explore- thebruce.com. If you are interested in joining the Familiarization Tour, regis- tration can be found athttp://www. explorethebruce.com/fam-registration. php For more information, please call the Bruce County Tourism Team at: 1-800-268- 3838 or emailinfo@explorethebruce.com The problem has spread. Lucknow Central Public School has now been targeted. As soon as the altered message was discovered, the sign was covered up and the South Bruce OPP was alerted. Principal Mary Martha Uttley-Shaw has suspended use of the sign by her students for now to eliminate the possibility of this reoccur- ring before the perpetrators can be caught. Both Jackobsen and Shaw have stated very emphatically that they could not submit details of the messages that appeared on the signs as theywould have not been able to be printed due to censorship laws. Shaw alerted Jackobsen that they had been targeted and that the OPP had been alerted. Jackobsen has now filed a report, as well. This is a problem that affects our entire com- munity, not only as it offends individuals, those who read the messages while passing throughwill be given a very negative impression of the area. It is hoped that by alerting the public to this crime and by providing photos of the signs that were tampered with, that people will identify other signs that could be targeted and watch for this problem spreading. Please pass on any information on these crimes or report any fur- ther incidents to the South Bruce OPP detach- ment in Kincardine to aid in finding the culprits.
