Lucknow Blyth Festival Singers
UCW news
Nancy Walden
Lucknow UCW Afternoon Group
met on a sunny and windy May 6 at
the Church enjoying first a noon
soup and sandwich luncheon pre-
pared by Deanna Reavie and Karen
Latour.
Gertie Henderson and Shirley
Brooks then presented a Mothers
Day program with various readings
and poems covering different
aspects of being a mother and mem-
ories of mothers. We sang "When
Mothers of Salem':
Joyce Adamson read "Full Circle
of Life", reflecting on becoming best
friends with one's mother. Gertie
read a poem about all the different
shades of green we notice in the new
growth of spring. We sang "For the
Beauty of the Earth':
Gertie gave a cute reading com-
paring us to when cars get old and
need new parts. She closed with a
prayer that gives thanks for family.
Twelve members answered roll
call with a gardening tip and/or
telling what is their favourite flower.
Helen Cleland read from the Least
Coin newsletter celebrating moth-
ers, the God-given ability to be a
mother, and considered many dif-
ferent conditions of being a mother
around the world. We pray for all
mothers and the lives they lead.
Shirley Bolt gave the treasurer's
report and we handed in our bake -
less bake sale envelopes. We send
good wishes to Edna Alton since
replacing her other knee last
month. UCW General Meeting is
May 27 and our group's next meet-
ing is June 3rd at 1:30 at the Church.
We closed with the UCW Prayer.

Cabaret May 31
Put on the glam and come to
the show, as once again the
Blyth Festival Singers pre-
sent their highly successful din-
ner cabaret and silent auction.
Doors to the Varna Com-
plex open on May 31 at 6:00 pm
with dinner to be served at
6:30.
The theme, "Songs from the
Stage" features the lighter side
of the choir's repertoire with
arrangements from some of the
greatest musical theatre pro-
ductions of our time. And you
are in for a musical treat! Our
very special guest is the
remarkable singer -songwriter,
Mark Cassius. Formerly of the
a cappella group "The
Nylons," Mark is a veteran of
stages in Grand Bend, Stratford
- and Broadway! In 2012 Mark
performed in the ambitious
and highly successful Stratford
Festival and Broadway revival
of "Jesus Christ Superstar."
Film roles include "Anchor
Baby" (2010), "Bollywood/Hol-
lywood" (2002) and "Comfort
and Joy" (2003). This summer
on the Grand Bend stage Mark
plays the devilish role of Mr.
Applegate in "Damn Yan-
kees." We are so thrilled to be
able to enjoy his talents, up
close and personal, at our gala
cabaret!
Compared to theatre tickets,
these are a steal at only $25.00
each. Children under twelve
get in for only $12.00. Advance
tickets are available at the Blyth
Festival Box office 523-9300 or
from any Blyth Festival Singer.
The Blyth Festival Singers are
under the direction of Sharon
Poelstra. They are proud to
have 104.9 the Beach as their
media sponsor.
