The Lucknow Sentinel, 2014-05-14, Page 5Wednesday, May 14, 2014 • Lucknow Sentinel 5 Wawanosh 4-H Life -skills Club Master Chef Wawanosh Maisy Jefferson QMI Agency The second meeting of the Wawanosh Life -skills club was held on April 29, 2014 at the Auburn Hall from 7-9p.m. As the members arrived, Marita Oud- shoorn led an activity where members were to organize food items in accord- ance with the Canada Food Guide. After this, Reba Jefferson organized a game of "Poison Ball: Mary Ellen Foran called the meeting to order and Reba opened with the meeting with the 4-H Pledge. Roll Call was, "What foods do you like/dislike because they remind you of places/ things/people in the past? Which foods do you eat now that seemed strange or unappetizing when you first heard of them?" Minutes of the last meeting were read by Scott Jefferson, as Melissa Higgins, the secretary for Meeting One was absent. Marita then reviewed the Canada Food Guide with the members. The members noted that the `Extras' Mary Ellen Foran, Gayle Mcllhargey, and Kate Higgins are making Birdseed Bars at the second meeting of the Wawanosh 4-H Life - skills Club on April 29, 2014. letters to the editor www.lucknowsentinel.com A Morning of Yoga Fundraiser Dear Editor: Our local fitness community is com- ing together to present a fund raising event in support of the Logan Hallahan Memorial Fund, Wingham & District Hospital Foundation. On Saturday, May 24,2014 The Town- ship of North Huron fitness staff is hosting "A Morning of Yoga': It will be a candle lit retreat featuring the dulcimer sounds of David Rankine and Jurij Konje. With 15 fitness professionals volun- teering their time, we will be offering a yoga experience for every level from beginner to advanced postures, chair yoga, and prenatal as well. This exciting, one of a kind event will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Wingham. The class will begin at 10:30 a.m. and conclude at noon. There will be a meet and mingle reception following. Admission is by donation at the door. Please join us. Whether this is your first yoga experi- ence or you are a long time practitioner, "A Morning of Yoga" promises to be a unique opportunity to join with your local fitness community to support The Logan Hallahan Memorial Fund. Carol Phillips Personal Trainer, Township of North Huron included items such as cof- fee, pop, chocolate bars and cookies and did not fit into the four major categories of Grains, Fruit and Vegetables, Meats and Alternatives and Milk Products. Mary Ellen then led the members in reading infor- mation in their manuals related to 'Brown Bag Lunches' and 'Safe Food Handling: After this, groups were assigned for making four dishes - Pizza Loaf, Couscous Salad, Birdseed Bars and Orient Express Chicken. Members washed their hands, read the recipes, organized their team for the recipes and reviewed the recipe with a Leader before getting to work. While the food was in the oven, the members then voted on the club name, the name decided was 'Master Chef Wawanosh: Kate and Loretta Higgins volunteered to design the cover page for the member books. Follow- ing this, members partici- pated in a Safety Snippets Trivia relay game. Food was then ready for the members to eat. Members particularly enjoyed the birdseed bars, although they didn't hold shape. While eating, Mary Ellen asked the members about what they would put on their school sandwich. Reba closed the meeting with the motto. The next Meeting is Friday May 9, 2014 at the Auburn Hall starting at 5:30 p.m. Mem- bers are reminded to work on making recipes to fill out their completed recipe log.
