drawing crowds through the downtown core and past local
businesses.
"It does create economic stimulus for the community and has
helped put Lucknow on the map," he said. "It's going to be a very
busy weekend."
McMurray said they'll soon begin filling the grid for the 300
volunteers required to help run the event.
Early Bird Weekend Passes are available for $100 until July 1,
with day passes available after that date.
Last year's event saw 3,800 people attend the Friday night
concerts and 5,600 in attendance on Saturday.
The Lucknow Kinsmen's fundraising event has provided sig-
nificant funds for local hospitals and community groups.
The Wingham, Goderich and Kincardine hospitals received
$10,000 from last year's event. Also receiving funds were the
Cystic Fibrosis foundation which received $40,000 and $5,000 to
local schools.
The event committee is still looking into other opportunities
for the money to make a difference and have plans to complete
local projects with the funds raised, like the Lucknow Splashbad
washrooms.
The group is making an effort to engage with residents and
concert -goers through social media, such as Facebook and Twit-
ter as well.

Singing and scripture at
Lucknow UCW meeting
Nancy Walden
Lucknow UCW
Lucknow UCW Afternoon Group met
on a March 4 at River Valley Apts.
Gertie Henderson welcomed the
nine members present opening the pro-
gram with prayer. As winter continues
it's icey grip across the country this year,
we shared our observations on how
birds are faring at our feeders—eating
ravenously. Scripture was Psalm 23
which Nancy Walden had us recite
together. Gertie read about a "Snow-
storm in the Country", and then about
the joy of sunshine and radiating that
joy in our living. We sang "Sunshine in
My Soul':
Nancy read about looking for spring
and Genie read a tongue twister about
'...we'll weather the weather whatever
the weather..!: We sang "Wonderful
Words of Love':
With thoughts ahead to spring, Nancy
read of the annual anticipation around
Elmira's Maple Sugar Festival in early
April, their 50th this year. Gertie read a
poem rejoicing in God's promise of
spring. Clocks will spring ahead one
hour this weekend and we'll welcome

spring equinox around March 20. Gertie
read a sweet story about the other kind
of thyme.
But still in March, it's our Church's
annual beef supper on March 16 with
an Irish -themed concert, so Gertie
closed with an Irish blessing:
May God grant you always
a sunbeam to warm you,
a moonbeam to charm you,
and a sheltering angel
so nothing can harm you.
Karen Latour opened business with A
Prayer for Spring. Then minutes, and
roll call was monetary donations
towards Church outdoor plants. Shirley
Bolt gave the Treasurer's report
Helen Cleland read Least Coin notes
on Egypt's many concerns since their
January 2011 revolution. We pray for
their people, leaders, people volunteer-
ing in their prisons, and for women liv-
ing in isolation from the tumult
throughout North Africa. We prayed the
Prayer of the Least Coin.
Bakeless bake sale envelopes were
distributed for return in May. Karen
amused us with a hilarious reading
about a farmer's wife helping move
some pigs, and a similar story of her
own about their family's rabbit, cat and
pig sharing quite harmoniously.
We closed with the UCW Prayer and
then enjoyed some tasty lunch pre-
pared by Karen and Elaine Errington.

Beginning of
Lent started with
many pancakes
Lucknow News
Ruth Dobrensky
A late 80th birthday greeting to
Marie Stewart who celebrated last
Saturday in Goderich with friends
and family.
I see that Marie Scott is home
from her vacation in Palm Springs,
California, where she apparently
had a very good time.
Last Tuesday, at St. Peter's Angli-
can Church, many people enjoyed
many pancakes and sausages. Pan-
cake Tuesday is a tradition upheld
by many churches prior to Lent and
there were many other churches in
the area who also celebrated with a
huge pancake supper.
A big surprise greeted Gerald
Wagner at the Lucknow Legion
Seniors dinner when the lights went
dim and a huge birthday cake was
taken in to help him celebrate his
95th birthday. Congratulations and
happy birthday Gerry.
Last Friday, the World Day of
Prayer Service was held at St.
Peter's Anglican Church, this year's
theme was Egypt and a good
number of people turned out to
take part in the service and to share
in the Egyptian ambiance in St.
Peter's sanctuary.
For all you card players out there,
in case you didn't know, an avid
bunch of card players meet in the
Lucknow Town Hall basement on
Monday and Friday afternoons at 2
p.m. Apparently they are always
looking for new patsies, I mean
players, so I believe all are
welcome.
