Another Season
Change!
More Beginnings and Endings
It has been a whirlwind of activity in
and around Lucknow as spring gives
way to summer.
With the ending of the school year the
children will no longer have the regimen
of a school day and caregivers have
been making plans for the summer
break. Area service providers are geared
up for another season of fun in the sun
or serious work during the warm -
weather period. Events of all sorts are
happening or are in the works for future
enjoyment.
Amidst all of this activity are the many
stories and memories that affix them-
selves to our hearts and minds. I am
keeping this short this week to allow
space to record the various local goings
on, relevant news and reports.
If you have stories about the past
school year, club season, events includ-
ing the Summerfest and other interest-
ing things to share throughout the sum-
mer, please drop them in at the Sentinel
during posted hours or send to luc-
know.editorial@sunmedia.ca. Please
make sure that photos are in .jpeg
format.
I remind all that the Sentinel staff can-
not attend every event or function. If
you wish coverage, please arrange for
this ahead of time to not be missed.
There are Community Volunteer
Reporter forms available from the office
or by e-mail for those who would like
some guidelines for submitting articles
and information on your own. Please
keep copy down to a reasonable length
for consideration for publication.
Remember to adhere to the published
deadlines to have your advertisements,
coming events, announcements, articles
and photos on time to be considered for
inclusion in a specific edition. We will
do our best to serve you, but do need
sufficient time to do so properly within
our appointed schedules.
I look forward to hearing and seeing
how people spend this summer.
Lucknow News
Wow, what a weekend!
By Ruth Dobrensky
Well another Strawberry Summer -
fest has come and gone and from eve-
rything I heard it was once again a
great success. Despite all the con-
struction at the east end of town, the
events began last Wednesday with the
soccer tournament followed on Thurs-
day with the slo-pitch ballgames.
There was something for everyone
right up to the final slo-pitch on Sun-
day afternoon. If you came away from
the weekend without having a lot of
fun and your fill of strawberries, it was
your own fault.
I unfortunately was unable to par-
take of many of the Summerfest events
as I was attending the Dobrenslcy fam-
ily reunion in Niagara Falls, New York.
We have a few U.S. Cousins and every
few years, the reunion is held over the
border. This year's highlight was the
50th anniversary celebrations hap-
pening this summer for three of my
cousins and their spouses. How many
people can say they attended a family
reunion and three 50th anniversary
parties on the same day?
Last Tuesday at St. Peter's Anglican
Church, the ACW held their annual
(and last) ladies fun night out. The
ladies have held this fun night for
years and invite all the ladies from all
the other churches in town along with
any ladies from the other churches in
our parish who would like to attend,
About 58 ladies were present for the
great food, fun and entertainment. A
great finish to a long tradition.
Last Wednesday, several members
of the Lucknow Sepoy Ranees
attended an event in Mildmay called
the "Mad Hatters Tea Party': I was a bit
apprehensive, when I heard that at the
end of the invitation, there was a sen-
tence ending with "off with your
heads". However, the tea was great, the
many red hatters gathered there were
appropriately dressed and a lot of fun
was had by those of us who attended
and I got to wear my newest red hat
purchased recently on my trip to
Toronto's Chinatown.
The storms last week seem to have
mostly missed Lucknow, but as you all
know, many communities surround-
ing us were hit, some worse than oth-
ers. Wingham had quite a lot of dam-
age and where without hydro for some
time due to downed trees and power
lines.
A little bird told me that June
Bremner had a birthday on June 21,
happy 91st birthday June, we wish you
many more.
It looks as though the Music in the
Fields program is going to be another
good one this year for all you country
music fans.

Congratulations to Corabelle and Art
Danahy who celebrated their 50th anni-
versary on Saturday. Corabelle was raised
on the 10th of Kinloss and in Dungannon.
The Walker House is a great place for a
gathering like that.
W I ladies please keep August 12th
open for our summer trip.
St Andrew's United Church in Ripley
celebrated their anniversary recently.
They also had a presentation to Shirley
Harris in appreciation for her years of ser-
vice as organist.
Fran and Jim Farrell attended an
engagement party for Carmen Farrell and
Jeff Knapp at the home of Keith and
Brenda Knapp at Ancaster.
Hope all the Dad's and Granddad's had
a wonderful Father's Day. It was a lovely
day. Gabrielle and Greg Smith were home
to celebrate with her parents Heather and
Sam Finnie.
Sympathy to Ray and their family on
the death of his wife Donna Osborne
Pennington.
Shirley and Doug MacDonald had an
enjoyable visit with their daughter Stefani
and Mike Simpson in New York State
recently.
What a great turn -out of the Chicken
Barbeque in Ripley last Wednesday.
Thanks folks for all your hard work. We
appreciate the opportunity to visit with
friends and neighbours.
Mary Anne Kukoly visited with her
cousin Roberta (Bobbi) Denny in Clifford
last week. Betty Scott and Mary Anne
enjoyed a good meal and visit on
Thursday.
