Lindsay and Donna Hazelden together approached Grant Robert- son of and he gave the go- ahead to begin holding meetings in the Lucknow Public Library. The first meeting was held April 1, 2014. Currently there are four regular members. Joining Lindsay and Hazeldon are Heather McGugan and Mike O'Neill with Terri Harrison being a casual member. The members have varying skill levels, knowledge and gen- res in which they work. Lary Lindsay, owner of Dream Dogs, enjoys creative writing. She wants to get back to writing and seeks out the company of other writers to keep her motivated. Donna Hazelden has worked in both print and radio for magazines, com- munity newspapers as well as in public relations. I have done script writing (mostly training and pr vid- eos). Hazelden writes a description of her begin- nings as a writer. "My very first piece published when I was 8 years old in an anthology of short stories for the North York Public Library system in Toronto. I liked seeing my name and print LOL and have been writing ever since." Cur- rently Hazelden remarks, "I am getting back to my crea- tive fiction writing which encompasses differ- ent genres and I am work- ing on a novel for young children." Terri Harrison is retired from a long career in the federal government where she was involved in speech writing for Ministers of Indian and Northern Affairs and Health Canada. Although she has a strong background in writing and editing for business pur- poses, Terri joined the writing group in Lucknow "to exchange ideas with others and to learn more about creative writing Mike O'Neill is a self -pub- lished author. He mainly writes for young adults and youth. O'Neill is grateful that Pat Livingston, formerly of the Lucknow Sentinel, encouraged him to submit articles to the newspaper. He has a book that is a compila- tion of the Christmas stories that were printed in the Sen- tinel over 20 years. Heather McGugan writes online fiction. She has writ- ten 29 novels that are classi- fied as urban fantasy. On June 10 the Writers' Group had their first guest speaker, Valerie Gillies of the Lucknow Sentinel. Meetings of the Lucknow Writers' Group are held each Tuesday evening in the Meeting Room at Lucknow Public Library from 6:30-8 p.m. Hazelden states, "Our meetings tend to vary from week to week with critiques of on going pieces, writing exercises and discussions of how to become better writers. We welcome new members of all levels of experience." Valerie iiiiiiesiLucKnow Members of the Lucknow WritersGroup meet at the Lucknow Public Library.
