Board's Strategic Plan

The Bluewater Dis-
trict School Board is
considering adding an
additional pillar about
financial accountability
to its multi-year strate-
gic plan.
"Many managers and
supervisors expressed
that they were finding it
difficult to link their work
to the three existing pil-
lars which are program
based, while at the same
time, discussions were
taking place between
senior administration
and trustees about finan-
cial challenges impacting
the board," Director of
Education Steve Blake
told trustees.
Decreased provincial
funding due to declining
enrolment continues to
pose challenges for the
board, who last week rec-
ommended that a pro-
posed $192 million dollar
budget for the 2014-15
school year be approved
at the board's next regu-
lar meeting June 17.
The fourth pillar, Blake
added, would focus on
"being accountable for
the responsible steward-
ship of resources" and
would encourage all lev-
els of staffing to create
alignment of human and
financial resources
through both short and
long term planning, as
well as maximizing
operational efficiencies,
including the use of
instructional spaces to
enhance program oppor-
tunities for students.
The other three pillars
in the board's strategic
plan, which is due for
review in 2015, include
creating an environment
that promotes high
expectations for all stu-
dents, encourages parent
engagement and ensures
the well-being of stu-
dents and staff in a safe,
supportive environment
for teaching, learning
and working.
The board has agreed
to the addition of the
fourth pillar as a working
draft until the strategic
plan is revised next year.

weeks men and women

place in the top 3 to win a

were tallied it was the
husband and wife team

Guys
Caring for
Kids Photo
Contest
Grey Bruce Health Unit
The 5th Annual Guys Caring for Kids
Photo Contest challenges photogra-
phers to capture the visual stories of
men in caring relationships with chil-
dren. Submissions are being accepted
until June 27.
Although men are highly involved in
the lives of children as fathers, uncles,
grandfathers, friends, coaches and
neighbours, the majority of visual
images in the media still feature
females in this role. Several organiza-
tions have come together to celebrate
the interactions of men with our
younger generations.
Photo submissions may include, but
are not limited to, the following activi-
ties: doing chores or daily activities
together, unstructured play, reading or
doing homework, recreational or lei-
sure activities or cuddling.
Prizes will be awarded for winning
submissions. The previous contests have
featured an excellent variety of entries,
judged by professional photographer
James Masters, which have been on dis-
play around the Grey Bruce region. Last
year's winning submissions and the 2014
registration form (attached) can be
viewed at: http://www.publichealthgrey-
bruce.on.ca/Family/Fathering/Armual-
PhotoContest/2014/Index.htm
The 2014 registration form can also
be picked up at the Grey Bruce Health
Unit, 101 17thStreet East, Owen Sound.
