Sydney Wightman was the lone Madill
midget girl to qualify winning a bronze
medal in discus and placing fifth in javelin.
Lyndon Smith raced the 100m hurdles in
fine form winning a gold medal in a new
best time of 14.62 seconds. Smith also qual-
ified in junior long jump with a leap of
5.50m
In the senior division, Naomi Van-
Stuyvenberg claimed a bronze medal in
discus when she threw the implement
28.14m. On the track, Jesse Fortier ran an

impressive 400 hurdle race earning a silver
medal. Justin McKague soared over the bar
at 1.85m to win a silver medal in senior high
jump. In the throws, Anthony Vader
claimed a qualifying position in senior jave-
lin with a new `personal best' of 46.39m.
Despite the competition being very keen
at OFSAA West Regionals (only the top four
athletes in each event advance to OFSAA
held in Mississauga June 5-7), Madill ath-
letes continue to work hard at practices and
are hopeful of eaming a qualifying position
for the Ontario high school
championships.
