Lucknow UCW News Nancy Walden Lucknow UCW Afternoon Group met on a windy June 3 at the Church enjoying first some light dessert prepared by Shirley Bolt and Shirley Brooks. Leading into summer, Deanna Reavie and Ruth Pritchard presented a program about vacations. Whether near or far, with family, friends or to new places, we experience the beauty of God's creation. Deanna took us on a whirlwind trip of the Baltic cruise she and Stu took last summer that started in Amsterdam. We fol- lowed on stops through Den- mark, Germany, Latvia, Estonia, St. Petersburg Russia, Finland and back to Amsterdam. A won- derful vacation. We sang the hymn "Birds are singing, woods are ringing': Ruth had a reading "Summers are Fun—Some are Not". She talked about vacations close to home, visiting favourite haunts and taking time to renew oneself. We sang "This is my Father's World". With Father's Day approaching, Ruth read about fathers being wonderful people, the many good things they can mean to us, and a guardian and guide like our Father in Heaven. As we take a break over the summer, Deanna read "Happy July 1st" suggesting things to think of on Canada Day like name the premiers and their parties of all provinces and ter- ritories, know their capital cities, name five Canadian rivers, read some Stephen Leacock, buy a Canadian flag. She concluded with a little poem "Truth Hurts': Karen Latour opened busi- ness with a humorous reading "Age—it's a funny thine Ten members and one visitor answered roll call with a vaca- tion they've had or will have or Blackhorse Golf Course Jeff Gammie Designation: Blackhorse Men's Committee b 1-1161,11.1 -111, .as -ral ( 11 4co.1,1=1.. Shirley Bolt gave the Treasurer's report. We acknowledged three July birth- days: Shirley Brooks, Gertie Henderson, and Karen. Helen Cleland read the Least Coin subject about the several forms of human trafficking that go on in Canada and the RCMP report on its known extent. We pray for the victims and our gov- ernment in its laws to counter- act it. Karen recounted Saturday's trip of a busload of Church members to Brampton to wit- ness and support Rev. Lynne Wilson's ordination into the United Church. We happily con- gratulate Lynne. Karen left us with the thought "don't be afraid of the space between your dreams and real- ity. You can dream it. You can do it." We closed with the UCW Prayer and wishing each other a good summer.
