Lion Tom Hogan remarked that in the 20 -plus years the Luc - know Lions have been organ- izing this event the average has been 6-8 dogs with their walkers. It is disappointing that participation is noticea- bly down this year despite the promotions employed. All money raised from this event goes to training dog guides in the facility in Breslau through the Lion's Foundation Canada. The puppies start out being raised by host families who must follow strict guidelines to prepare them for their career as dog guides. From these homes the dogs pro- gress through the training school in Breslau. Their pro- spective owners must come to the school to work with them for 4-6 weeks to receive their own training and to allow for the owner and dog to learn to work as a team. Hayley Campbell has been participating in the Lucknow walk since 2000 when she was just an infant. This year she is walking Jasmine. Kathy Todd, Hayley's grandmother, is walking Lucy and is thrilled to have 2 daughters, 3 grand- daughters and 2 pups partici- pating as a part of her family. Dusty, the beagle walked by Tom Eskrick, was origi- nally named Justin, but his adoptive family felt that name just did not fit him. Dusty was a Pet Rescue 4 years ago. He came from Tennessee and was fostered out by Lucknow Adopt -a -pet, but wormed his way into the family's hearts and was adopted by his foster family. Maddie the German shep- herd was also rescued from a dicey beginning. At approxi- mately a year and a half old, Maddie is now part of the Hogan family. The Lucknow Lions add that they are always doing fundraising of some type. They are a "small but mighty" group and can most certainly use more people to help with this. Anyone interested in becoming a member is welcome.
